We stayed for 6 nights at The Shore and it was a fantastic end to a 2 week stay in Phuket. The rooms are spacious, modern, light and lounging by our private pool each afternoon was wonderful. The bed was very comfortable (I have a very bad back so good beds are important).

The staff were super friendly, we got to know the wonderful security guard Suthep as he helped us get oujr scooter each day.

The breakfast is the best I've had in a Kata resort. The pancakes can't be beat. The hot parts of breakfast (coffee, eggs, omelettes, pancakes, bacon, etc) are all made to order so you get a fresh meal - no stale pancakes or old rubbery eggs! And the view is just awesome.

On our last day we ate lunch at the Harbour restaurant. This is where you have breakfast. The food was delicious.

We used the gym equipment and it was the best we've used in any of the Kata resorts. Plus a lady dropped in at the end of our workout with water and cold towels. Perfect!

For the price I was expecting top service and amenities. I wasn't disappointed. The only thing I would change is next time we're getting an Ocean View room.

Fantastic position, great pool and beautiful rooms but service and food quality leaves much to be desired. Our stay wasn't helped by a film crew occupying the resort for 2 days, but the Resort Manager, Sabina, responded well and understood our plight! The staff are just not experienced enough yet and speaking English can be a problem.
We wish Sabina, her staff and the hotel well but we were disappointed.

With budget Air Asia flying the perfect Fri night departure Sun return flight to Hong Kong, this was my 5th weekend escape in Phuket this year.

Of the 6 hotels during this year's trips ranging from Indigo Pearl at thb5502 per night ( incl tax) to Andara at usd807.16/ thb 24214. My conclusions for this year

- Indigo thb5502 cheapest well designed & most convenient to airport
- Sala Phuket thb7478 cheapest in range with own pool. Also close by airport.
- Paresa thb14987 great view/ hideaway in the hills
- Shore thb15999- only hotel I would not recommend (explain later)
- Sri panwa thb18695 best in every aspect. Only downside: location a downer if proximity to town is important and restaurant limited choices of Thai food
-Andara thb24214 expensive, upscale place but room for improvement

Shore at Katathani
pros
1/ proximity to Kata beach and Kata's shops and restaurants (ie including free rides to the lovely mom Tri's kitchen) also nice to have option to use Katathani's facilities.
2/ lots of fresh flowers throughout the room (orchids and roses)
3/ decent sea view from room & just a short stroll to the long sandy mellow Kata beach with Phuket's famous turquoise water.

Cons
1/ not an amazing view --booked "seaview" pool villa. Had decent seaview but as there were 3 other villas in front, immediate view was of the golfcart pathway below and the entrance to two other villa. My expectation was high coz
a) of the rave reviews on tripadvisor as well as the photos of rooms with better views posted on Tripadvisor as well as the hotel's own website
b) seen better unobstructed seaviews in Phuket in this price range
2/ design/decor of rooms were decent but not as sophisticated as Andara or Sri panwa.
3/ would be even better if offer in room check in, esp. since I got in after midnight Fri. What's the point of signing multiple vouchers, filling in my address etc (info already provided when I booked the hotel?)
4/ construction noise. Not sure what was worse-- the banging/hammering by hotel workers immediately outside my villa on the left or the welding noise from the right side. I was only here for two days and the welding continued both Saturday and Sunday.
5/ 3 star hotel service standards:
on my last day, came back after morning walk and room was being cleaned, after the crew left I forgot to put up the no disturb sign ( a wooden turtle with a flag ) a cleaning staff subsequently walked in the room (an hour later) without knocking or ringing the doorbell, so I then put up the no disturb turtle to take a nap.
As I told them when I checked in I intended to check out at 145pm on Sun, was surprised to be woken up by 3 of cleaning crew (that at least rang the doorbell) at 1230 pm to ask when I'd leave, so I told them I would leave at 1:45 pm. Took a quick shower and guess what? two additional cleaning crew rang the doorbell at 1:05 pm, by this time I left right away to check out and decided hot dogs at the airport would be better vs a lunch at this place where you pay 5 stars prices to stay in a 4 stars room and get a 3 stars hotel's service

In sum, there are better choices in Phuket in this price range.

Dear anilegna, thank you for taking time to write a review on TripAdvisor. It gives us important information and feedback which we can use to improve our services. We are very sorry that the view from the villa was not to your satisfaction. Had this concern been raised, we would have had the option of moving you to a villa with a view that matches your expectations. During your stay we were putting the final touches on our property. We sincerely apologize that the noise from these works was a nuisance to you and for the disturbance caused by our housekeeping staff. I would like to thank you for choosing to stay with us and express my deepest apologies that your experience was not enjoyed to the fullest. Your comments have been passed onto our department heads and we will surely work hard to improve in all areas. We hope you can give us another chance; to enjoy our services and facilities to the fullest.

The Sea View Villa was spacious and you indeed felt like home the minute you entered the room. Great view of the beach and the forest and stunning scenery at night. The rooms are so lovely with the private porch and private infinity pool that you will spend quite a bit of time there and quite secluded. Just one thing to be observed (when applicable at all) is the sun situation on the villa plunge pool area. It most probably depends on how the sun is moving. But now being the end of November, the rooms slightly facing the forest had no sun on the pool deck at all. However, the size of the private pool was much bigger than expected and would have been perfect with a bit of sun.
The staff was very friendly though in some areas, still needs some 5star skill improvement. Yet everyone did it’s absolute best and since the Shore does have a comfortable size, you did not need to keep repeating your room number, but was memorized from the golf buggy driver to the receptionist and The Harbour (Restaurant at the Shore) employees. The food at the Harbour Restaurant was great and table setting by the pool very romantic. We had halfboard and could have used other restaurants within the Katathani Resort, but we felt happy and personally taken care of at the Harbour and did not go to other places.
Guests at the Shore are also able to use the Katathani resort facilities. The Villa and the Shore at Katathani surrounding was very clean, and the bottled water, coffee and tea in the room and fresh fruit basked every morning was complimentary.
After all a great stay at this hotel and I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are looking to "get away".

The beautiful views, your own private pool and luxurious room make The Shore at Katathani an ideal place to stay. The photos from the website are spot on and our view was simply breathtaking. The staff are very friendly, well versed in English and always helpful. We enjoyed the restaurants on the grounds but it's also close enough to walk to other restaurants or take a short taxi ride into Kata for a myriad of choices. We were lucky enough to arrive for the Loy Krathong festival and they had a special dinner with Loy Krathong floats for each guest and flying lanterns that we lit after dinner and watched fly away. The beach is very nice with no road to cross and the water was lovely. There were enough stands on the beach that you can get a massage, a drink or jet ski but not so much that it's intrusive. We saw a wedding one evening - it looked lovely - and we got to enjoy the fireworks along with the wedding party. We had a most relaxing and enjoyable holiday and I would definitely return to The Shore at Katathani when we need a beach vacation in Phuket.

Never having travelled through Thailand before I wanted to make sure our accomodation was comfortable. What we experienced at The Shore Villas was nothing less than perfection. The Villa was spacious with the best view of the beach imaginable. The plunge pool was much bigger than was advertised in the brochures and the view second to none. Every night we'd come home to a different towel animal folded on our bed and wake upto a fresh fruit basket every morning. From the golf buggy ride to your door to the salute from the security every time you passed, everything was choreographed to perfection. The only problem we faced was having to leave.

We stayed at the Shore for 9 nights and could have easily stayed another 9 nights. The view from the infinity pool on the balcony was amazing. The room was actually larger than it looks in the hotel's website pictures, and the service was exceptionally good.

We had originally booked into the Katathani's Junior Suites, however we changed to the Shore as we got a good deal on Expedia. It was well worth it when we arrived.

We booked an airport transfer through the Shore for 1500 baht each way. The car was a new Toyota with comfortable leather seats. The driver provided bottles of water and cold towels which were appreciated after the 9 hr flight from Australia.

When we arrived at the Shore's reception area, we were welcomed by staff and quickly taken to our room by Buggy. The rest of the check-in was completed in our room following a tour of the room. As it was our anniversary, I had arranged for a bouquet of roses for my wife - it was much larger than expected and The Shore had also given us a cake with Happy Anniversary written on it.

The villa looked brand new and was well designed. The infinity pool on the balcony was much larger and deeper than expected - almost the size of many backyard pools in Australia. The lounge areas next to the pool were spacious and comfortable.

The service at the Shore was exceptionally good. All staff from reception, room service, housekeeping, maintenance and security were very friendly and welcoming. Security staff were particularly good and welcomed us like a friend each time we left and returned to the resort. I have stayed in similar resorts in Thailand a number of times previously but have never experienced the high level of service we received at The Shore.

Guests at the Shore are also able to use the Katathani resort facilities. This makes it feel like you have the best of both resorts - the many facilities, bars, restauarants at Katathani, but also the more personal feel of a smaller resort like the Shore.

An area of the resort that could be improved is the food. While the room service and breakfasts are ok, they are not great. The food at Mom Tris Kitchen and Boathouse was better. Breakfasts were ok, but they need to offer more variety for those staying longer than a couple of days. I would have also liked more asian breakfast options on the menu, as I enjoy these when in Asia. I can eat Bacon, Sausages and Eggs every now and again, but after a few days I'd like the option to eat something else (apart from cereal/toast). The same goes for the katathani resort restaurants. These were mostly almost empty most nights, while most local restaurants were usually busy. I think the reason may be that prices were higher, but the quality (while good) was not worth the price. We ate at Mom Tris Boathouse and Mom Tri's Kitchen a couple of times and, while expensive for Thailand, the quality was high and worth the price. The Shore arranged for a free transfer to Mom Tris Kitchen. (We also ate at Two Chefs in Kata, and the local Thai restaurants in Kata Noi which were good also.) This may not be important for some, however we enjoy eating good food, and both The Shore and the Katathani would be almost perfect if the dining options were improved.

We would definitely recommend The Shore to anyone wanting a relaxing beach holiday away from the crowds of Patong. It is an amazing resort with some of the best views in Phuket. Above all, the service alone is a reason to stay. Having your own private pool with a view of the beach is an added bonus.
