Located near Kata beach (5 minute walk), this is the newer sister to Sugar Palm Kata. Lots of restaurants and great bars near the hotel.

Breakfast is great, service is so so... we asked for a 1 hour extend to our 12am checkout time, but they bluntly said no - no bargain here.

We opted for the Pool view Grand room. Ample space, room has an unfinished-style (read: cemented only) decor to it... large bathroom with large bathtub, flat screen tv, great balcony.

everything is great except for the BED - which is not spring, and very hard. We ended up getting 2 massages during our trip (not complaining) but they seriously need to to something to it...

Room Tip: Ask for pool view/access

Great Location which was within walking distance to the town and beach. If you love mountain climbing, you would love this place as there were no lifts. We had to keep climbing up the steep slopes to get to our room on level four. Good exercise especially after a heavy meal.

Nice sea view from our huge and spacious room which came with a jacuzzi. This place was surrounded by swimming pools of different sizes everywhere. The presence of tall palm trees swaying to the breeze added a touch of relaxing Hawaiian feel to the isolated property on a hill.

This place is peaceful and tranquil unlike the noisy and touristy Patong beach. A welcome change for us who are frequent travellers to Phuket.

We booked a room with pool access. On the first night we arrived, we entered to a foul smelling room. The room smelt dank and even the bed and sheets felt dank, even moist, with sand on the floor. When we opened the windows, my direct access pool was just in front of the public pool. Why would I want a direct access pool if I can just walk 3 more steps to use the main one?!

Needless to say, I requested for a change of room, on a higher floor which was slightly better. The room was big and roomy with a nice thai day-bed in the center. But your neighbours can see in to your room easily.

Room interior decor was lazy and slipshod. It's grey walls and floors, though supposedly minimalism, looked like they were done by a lazy painter.

Breakfast was nothing to boast about.

The only plus about this hotel were its nice staff, Apple Airport control system and close walking proximity to kata beach (then again, there are many other hotels with close proximity to beaches).

Room Tip: A high floor if you want a better view (better, but not necessarily good) but choose a low floor if...

This place has nice view that overlook Kata downtown area, close access to the beach, spacious room and pretty comfortable bed... it could have been such a nice place to stay except... their service is horrible! In fact, that's the worst service I have ever experienced in all Thailand.

Front desk hardly speaks any English and has a bad attitude. I didn't feel welcomed at all when I first checked in.

In the 4 days we stay, we were locked out twice from our own room. And because our room is located on the top floor, which means we have to take two escalators, climb up a bunch of stairs and a couple very steep slopes to reach our own room, that makes it of course very annoying when we have to go down, make them open the door for us and walk up again! On the day we were supposed to check out, we came back at 11:50am, knowing that we should grab our bags and check out at noon. When we asked the front desk to open the door and asked why would we be locked out the second time, the front desk lady reprimanded us that it's past noon and we were late to our room, which we explained, it was not true. And then, in a horrible attitude, she said to us, now you can go to your room. No sorry, no goodbye. No nothing, just ended there, abruptly.

The attitude of their staff remains consistently annoying. We had different people serving us at the front desk with the same attitude. Oh...and did I mention? Their pillows were disgusting and filthy.

There were other encounters like when we were trying to rent a motor bike from them that were also horrible that we ended up just left the place and..and.. and... but I guess I don't need to repeat myself. I guess I made the point already...

The point here is this: For a 4 star hotel, with this level of service, I don't recommend anybody going there unless you get a really good deal, or you are a hotel manager looking for negative educational case.

We stayed here for a week due to the very good rates we got off an online booking site. I must admit a week is way too long for a small little area like kata, but we made the most of it. Hotel was nice especially our room that has pool access. Quite central. However staff didn't have the best attitude. Room Service, Limited but tasty. WiFi sucks. Overall pretty good.

Room Tip: Massage down the road from Hotel. Apart from that do not shop at the shops at the entrance of the s...

We were 2 couples who booked accomodation for 8 nights late September at the Sugar Palm Hillside. This was our 6th trip to Thailand.
After reading reviews I was expecting the decor etc to be different from the Traditional Thai decor, but was not expecting this! We arrived 11pm on a Friday night , The hotel lobby is very sparse two desks and a statue. There was practically no communication with the staff on duty. We had previously emailed and asked for rooms near each other, they gave us rooms on different floors. They did to their credit change us to be next to each other. We were given rooms on the 2nd floor, when we were taken to our rooms an American couple were leaving (midnight) and made it quite clear they would not stay another night in this ......hole. We should have taken heed then. Our rooms were very dark and smelt. The bathroom was so dark could not tell how clean they really were . In fact we showered in our thongs, reminded me of camping days. The beds were typical Thailand beds, hard.
The view from our room was a building renovation. The breakfast was not very good, besides having no staff to wait the tables. The egg station provided 'deep fried eggs' swimming in oil. We lasted one night only! We transferred to The Access Resort in Karon and for a few dollars a night more we had a lovely pool access room with friendly helpful staff. The most dissapointing misleading thing about the Sugar Palm is the ratings it has , I feel that it is no way a 3 1/2 or 4 star hotel. I do understand you get what you pay for but you can not compare this hotel with any other 4 star we have stayed in. When checking out after only 8 hours, the staff did not even ask for feedback, the only thing they said was 'no refund' All in all a bad way to start our Thailand leg of the holiday.

We stayed one night at the Sugar Palm Grand. I did quite like the hotel and its setting, but this is also its greatest fault.

The hotel is set on a number of levels on the southern end of Kata beach. We had the highest of the direct access pool rooms, and due to this there is a long walk to the top, great if you are on a health kick, not so good if you are here for a rest. The resort has golf carts to drive you up the hill if you desire, but if the charge is down like ours you still need to walk as it stopped half way up the hill.

The room we had was reasonable in size with no complaints and the bed was very comfortable. As there are many levels you may have only one other room sharing your pool or four or five as I thinks ours was. There is a main pool down near reception that has a swim up bar.

For the short stay we had the staff were friendly and could not fault them. In all I did enjoy the resort and its views. I would stay there again.
