“Kata Resort - Location!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2012

We were 2 adults a 13 year old and stayed 10 nights in October. It didn't seem that busy, so was a very nice time to go, weather fantastic. Our room had a balcony with a lovely view out to the sea and pool resort areas. The room was right above the entrance to the restaurant. The room was of an average standard, nothing special. There was a large mould patch on the ceiling where the AC blew out from, and the cleaning service was very average, just replaced the linen (sometimes not all of it, so had to ring housekeeping on 2 occassions) but didn't clean the bathroom really. Our son had the rollaway which was a pretty hard thin mattress. We only ate at the poolside bar on our last day and it was good. There are so many other places to eat, and much better value for money. We ate dinner twice on the beach, in front of the resort where a mobile BBQ sets up every night, Fabulous, entertaing and good value, and you can BYO drinksPool towels are provided and yes guests do place their towels on the loungers for the day, didn't seem a problem when we were there as it was quieter. We didn't sit by the pool so didn't bother us. There is plenty of choice for transport, we took the local bus to Phuket town at 30 Baht, great value, and right outside the resort, and once in Phuket we hired a Tuk Tuk to take us around Phuket and back to Kata, over 4 hours $600Baht. He took us to 1 gem store and a souvenir shop, which was great for us as we had heard but not seen these places. The driver gets stamps which can be used for fuel. Kata is a good location away from the crowds of Patong, and everything is right on the doorstep of the resort, with plenty of choice. If you do a lot of day trips you will always be picked up first 7 -7.30am because it is so far south, unless the trip leaves from Chalong. But you do see a bit more of the country as well. Pedicures, massages etc are available just in front of the beach, very good value, and a must. The beach right in front is a big plus, and great waves. Overall the resort provided what we needed a great base to see and do things or simply relax. We got a great October rate, but probably wouldn't want to pay much more.

Room Tip: we had 2311- mould on the ceiling, but other rooms could have this problem too due to humidity.This...

We stayed for 8 nights in August and had a fantastic time. We had two adjoining rooms for a family of 4 which worked really well. The view from our rooms were lovely, the amenities were of a reasonable standard (a bit dated) but clean and tidy - perfectly adequate. The best part about Kata beach resort is that is right on the beach, has a lovely swimming pool when not swimming in the sea and was also in the middle of the resturant and shopping area - not much walking. The weather was extremely hot when we were there so being right on the beach was magic!! Buffet breakfast was really good. A great place to stay - would recommend it to families. Definitely thought it was the best resort at Kata Beach - may not be the grandest or newest but location and beach are my no. 1 recommendation to others.

My partner and I stayed here for ten nights at the end of October through early November and had a lovely time. I stayed here earlier in the year with friends also and you just can't beat the location on the beach! Staff appear disinterested at times but if you've got realistic expectations about the service it won't bother you.

This time however we befriended (if you can say that) a stray kitten who appeared to frequent the resort at dusk near the adult pool. It (sex unknown) was malnorished and whilst we tried to fatten it up (it loved the spam you can buy across the road at 7-Eleven - 5 slices per feed chopped up) over the ten nights we were there, I'd love to know someone is taking care of it now that we've returned home. We named it Percy - it's white with bright blue eyes and ginger coloured stripes on it's tail. It's scared of people and is known for the odd meow and kitten hiss but appeared extremely grateful for the food and we'd find it in the same place each day (the garden beds surrounding the adult pool). If we beat it there we'd find it sprinting across the gardens towards us.

Whilst I know it's one kitten in a thousand strays on Phuket (we contacted Soi Dog who menioned they have 400 dogs and cats in their shelter currently) but it would be great to try and build up a bit of a community of cat friendly folk who stay at Kata Beach Resort and Spa who could keep an eye on it's welfare.

Thanks!

Room Tip: If you're not travelling with kids make sure you stay away from the pool area!

A great location being only 1 of 3 or 4 hotels at Kata with direct beach access to Kata Beach. We stayed for 8 nights, 10 would have been ideal.
It is not a flash hotel, now getting dated and rooms arent overly big but we found it clean and tidy and provided every thing we needed. It is well located for every thing, eating out, shopping, location of bus stop and a seven 11 store across the road. We did a lot of checking on trip advisor before deciding on Kata as our location and Kata Beach Resort for our accommodation, we are very pleased we chose both. Room air conditioning was good and worked well. The daily room make up service was excellent. Breakfasts were included in the package and the package was pay for 1 night and get 1 free. We found the breakfasts good but suggest like most places that you have breakfast before 9am to get a good selection. 2 swimming pools, 1 with a swim up bar. We ate out every night bar 1 given the close proximity and choice of restaurants. Hotel meals were ok but generally more expensive than eating out. We think great value for money if you can get the pay for 1 get 1 free night with breakfast included package. I expect we would not have enjoyed our stay as much had we gone in peak season or during school holidays. Try the bus service, once you get use to it its great. I dont recommend the hiring of motor bikes - there are a lot of accidents. If you are interested in cooking suggest you go to the Thai cooking school for the day - not the cooking class the hotel offers. Great experience, they take you to the markets to buy the food then teach you how to cook 5 different meals.

Room Tip: Suggest you pay the xtra and get a room with sea views or pool views OR you may get a room facing th...

Even though we own our home on Phuket, we always have friends stay here or at the Le Meridien. Unfortunately, the Tuk-Tuk and Taxi mafia is located across the street and people have to take that mode of transportation. Phuket says it has pushed the price of transportation down, not true.

Check my review for Horn Grill (fantastic steaks, eat there) and the nasty vendor to avoid across from the resort.

We got a good deal through a well known travel site Ex. Loved the place since we entered there. The resort is very well located, on Kata Beach. The beach itself is clean and very pretty with a long stretch.
We enjoyed our daily buffet breakfast on the large extended outdoor deck by the pool. The pool is good with a pool bar (little expensive). The room service and house keeping was excellent. We were celebrating 2 occasions on our trip and the resort very kindly offered complimentary cakes and services. The staff is polite and we were looked after well.
There are shops and restaurants on the doorstep and is very convenient for shopping or eating out.
We stayed in the Deluxe rooms that were nice, the pool access rooms looked nice too, though not very exotic. The only drawback is that the pool closes at 7pm. The resort does not have Free wi-fi, but you can buy 1 hour or full day slots starting from 100-300 bahts.
We would highly recommend this place and would love to go back on our next visit :)

Room Tip: We stayed in a Deluxe room on the 2nd floor that gave us good views of the resort and the beach.

Very neat and clean resort. The position is perfectly located on the beach. There are heaps of restaurants and shopping as soon as you head out the front gates. The staff couldn't be more helpful. Would highly recommend staying at this hotel
