This small place has the feeling of a lovely bed and breakfast. The gay English couple, Keith and Tim, are very kind and friendly, and couldn't be more helpful. They have a sweet little dog, who we became very fond of.
Their cortijo is an old farmhouse and they have sensitively renovated it, to keep the feeling of the old place as much as possible. It is up a small winding road with only room for one car. Passing another car on the road is a challenge, but one gets used to it after a few times. That road is not for the faint of heart! The cortijo is up on top of a hill surrounded by olive groves, and there is a nice view of the hills all around. They also have a nice outdoor pool, but it was still too cool in March for us to swim.
When we arrived, we were tired and dirty after 2 weeks in Spain touring. We asked where we could get some clothes washed. Well, they didn't really have washing facilities or someone to do washing, but they decided to let me use their personal washing machine, and hang our clothes out on their own clothesline at the back of the house.
When you go there, you really feel that they take you under their wing and look after you. They told us how to drive to the towns we wanted to visit, and where to safely park to go to the attractions, and gave us maps. A real tourist guide service!
Keith cooks meals in the evening also, as well as serving breakfast. So one has a choice of eating in or going out for dinner to a nearby town. The evening meals were not elaborate but just fine, although we did think the price a bit high for what we got to eat.
The price of the room was very reasonable, and the room was large and clean. You have to watch the hot water though. The hot water tank is very small. It is hung up high on one wall in the room. We quickly ran out of hot water a couple of times.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- A beautifully restored 250-year old olive cortijo, hidden away amongst the olive groves south of Iznajar, with stunning, ever-changing views of the Sierra Nevada and the valleys. 6-star service, home from home, a little corner of paradise are but a few items of praise we have received. A warm welcome awaits is our motto, but we may need to change it soon to: so good you won't want to leave! ... more less
