I just returned from three nights at Finca Las Encinas, and I've already cooked two of the recipes that Clive taught us! The Finca is beautiful, set among olive groves as far as the eye can see. During the days, my friend and I set out on adventures in Priego and Cordoba with perfect directions from Maki. Then at 6:00 in the evening the cooking would begin. Clive is an excellent teacher -- showing the how and explaining the why. He pushed us outside our comfort zone (fileting fish, cooking mussels and clams), and showed us simple but delicious recipes (especially the rustic cakes for dinner.)
Another couple was staying at the Finca when we were there. They did not do the cooking classes. They enjoyed the fruits of our labor and oohed and aahed over dinner! We felt like celebrity chefs. The whole vacation was like a dream.

Room tip: There are a lot of narrow and steep steps.

Dear NMartz,

How wonderful to hear about your comment !!! Thank you so so much for choosing to stay with us and to participate in our cooking course which is a great way to learn some useful tips and the know-hows the easy way that you could actually use at home in your own kitchen.
We all had a fun time in and out of the kitchen, even if the weather was not great ! Thank you for coming and please keep in touch.

Two of my friends and I stayed with Maki and Clive for two nights in March; it was my first time staying at Finca Las Encinas and my first time in this particular part of Andalucia. It was a wonderful introduction; the location was peaceful and very beautiful, the rooms were cozy at night and yet cool in the heat of the day, and beautifully furnished. Clive and Maki's dogs were friendly and we took up the offer of dinner cooked by Clive both evenings - which were our best meals of the entire trip, I cannot recommend his food enough (the breakfasts were wonderful as well). Clive and Maki had excellent recommendations for things to do and places to go and they are located at a convenient distance from a number of destinations. it was too cold when I visited to swim but there is a lovely swimming pool and loungers ready for warmer weather, as well as a table outside with a fantastic view. Clive also offers cookery courses (which one of my friend's chef son is looking into taking up). This was our favourite accommodation of the trip and both that and the dinner were superb value for money. I definitely plan to return and have recommended it to my friends as a standout base for exploring Andalucia. (try not to arrive after dark if you find the winding roads difficult; however, note that Maki's directions are perfect).

We had a wonderful stay at Clive & Maki's beautiful guesthouse. They could not have been more welcoming or accommodating to us. We were travelling with our six month old baby and they made our stay so enjoyable with their friendly relaxed hospitality and great company. They gave us really good recommendations for nearby traditional Andalucian villages to visit also. The food was excellent and added greatly to our experience.  We would love to return again soon.

first of all the directions to find this out of the way hideaway were spot on. we spent 6 nignts at Clive and makis finca.our hosts were delightful, the room was excellent. there was endless information at hand and clive and maki knowledge of Andolucia was second to none, even down to the Gypsy and car park in cordoba . breakfast was traditional and thoroughly enjoyable. Clive cooked for us and WOW can he cook. local ingrediants and food heaven.tucked up in the hills amongst the olive trees it was a great place for walking. the area has so much history, there was so much to see, from Iznajar itself, Cordoba, Antiquala. from jurassic rocks in the natural park to neolithic man made caves to Romans , from stunning mosques to the spanish inquisitino it had it all.we enjoyed our stay immensly and would recomend staying here as a perffect place to just relax or explore andalucia.

Room tip: room with a terrace for bird song in the morning

We were at Clive and Maki's B&B for cooking classes at the beginning of the summer. We had a wonderful time with their family, including their furry friends. The Finca was quaint, with modern features. While there, we spent most of our time outdoors, enjoying the beautiful countryside, eating, napping around the pool, reading or just having some great conversations. We learned a lot from Clive while we cooked 4 of our 5 meals, including one we cooked for other quests. As part of our experience Maki would take us sightseeing each day. The central location of the Finca was perfect for sightseeing, everything we wanted to see was within a 1-1/2 hr ride, and the country side was spectacular. Makie was very knowledgeable about the area and we learned so much. They were a wonderful family and we had a truly enjoyable time with them. would recommend them to all.

Room tip: All the rooms are small but beautiful, some have stairs to reach them or the bathroom.
