Everytime we drove past Charlestown, we always wanted to try Taste of Korea. We thought it must be good, it's been there for years. Boy, were we wrong.

For starters, looking at the menu, there's not very much we could pick. The main looked expensive for what it is. So we settled for the Lunch Set menu. We ordered Steamed Dumpling, Sizzling Beef and Sizzling Chicken. We're not hard to please. We weren't expecting something spectacular, just something good. The Steamed Dumplings were one of the worst we had. We couldn't work out what was in it. The menu said it had pork, but we couldn't taste the pork at all. The Sizzling Beef was ok, but the Sizzling Chicking was terrible. The chicken tasted old and had a funny smell.

No wonder the place had no other customers when we went there for lunch on a Saturday. I just wonder how a restaurant like that could last at all. That's the last time we'll be going there!

I have to disagreed with David as I have eaten here several times this year and numerous times in the past couple of years. I have always had wonderful service and great food. Cheung (the owner) has been in this location for some years now and while Korean food is perhaps a little different to the Australian palate it is really well done by the Taste of Korea.
Vistana is also very good Malaysian and again I have eaten there many times.

We went to the Taste of Korea having bought a voucher from an online site offering 2 meals for $50 - a claimed saving of around $70. Three of us went which meant we added to the voucher meals with one extra starter and one extra mains, there was also one extra corkage charge. At the end of the meal we were billed over $50 for that and whilst you would expect that kind of price for good cuisine in a nicely decorated restaurant, this was not a nicely decoarted restaurant, in fact it was little more than a cafe with a TV on the wall with subtitles rather than scenes of Korea, and whilst the food tasted OK and was filling, it really didnt warrant $50 for a main and a starter.

It is sad in a way, because they have obviously tried to market their business with a discount voucher offer, but with those sorts of prices for what they are offering it won't succeed in the medium or long term.

Sitting so close to a superb restaurant (Vistana Malaysian food is right opposite) and with several other easteries in and around Charlestown Square, you can certainly do better than dining at the Taste of Korea - though $50 for two would be a reasonable deal if you can find it - just dont take anyone extra with you.
