Ordered takeaway on basis of previous reviews which were rather glowing. The meat dish - chicken - was tasty but the vegetable dish was overcooked and oily.

I have dined here many times and have never been disappointed by the food or service. Both are excellent. IMO as good as anything Malaysian in Sydney and streets above the local competition. In contrast to most local 'Malaysian' restaurants, these people actually provide authentic Malaysian cuisine. (some others I have tried which are basically Chinese menus with a couple of Malaysian options). Vistana caters for Hawker style noodle lovers, a good selection of curries and even vegetarian options on most dishes. The food has always been served promptly and the portions are generous. One of a few restaurants of this quality to be open for lunch on Saturdays. The sauces are really a standout for entrees and 'Mee Goreng' has a great combination of peanut, chill heat and sweetness. The noodle soups like Laksa and Nonya Assam are delicately spiced. Nothing on the entire menu is overly hot with chilli.. and no main is currently more than $19. The Roti Canai is worth the visit. There is a smaller lunch menu with most of the popular mains for $10. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Clean with great food.. I take as many friends there to eat as i can.. it's not going to be a secret much longer.

What a surprise this restaurant is.

The first time we visited was because we were staying in a motel nearby and couldnt be bothered driving anywhere for dinner, so we walked inside what appeared to be a basic cafe style restaurant Asian restaurant and ordered a couple of dishes. From that moment on, we make an effort to dine at the Vistana whenever we are in the Newcastle area.

The food is wonderfully presented and the taste is just sensational, leaving all the other Malaysian restaurants we have visited in their shadow.

Parking isnt easy, so my recommendation is to go into the Mackers car park next door and leave the car there. Take a beer or some wine with you as the restaurant doesnt sell them, but there is a bottle shop across the other side of the Pacific Highway if you dont mind walking up to the lights to cross.

Having been back a few times now I can assure anyone with a taste for Asian food that the experience at Vistana will leave you looking for an excuse to move house to Charlestown just to make it easy to enjoy their food at least once a week!!!

A nicely set up and decorated restaurant with all the usual Malaysian dishes plus some "old time favourites" more at home in a suburban Chinese.
We had the Chicken Satay($10) and Roti($6) entrees and the Ipoh Char Hor Fun($13) and Salt and Pepper Tofu($14) for mains.
Service was pleasant and quick, servings were quite generous.
I would have liked a more traditional peanut sauce for the satay and the tofu was just ok, but we ate it all and were very satisfied.
With 2 soft drinks, dinner came to $50, pretty good value these days.
