The Cross Hands Hotel
Ranked #2 of 4 Old Sodbury B&B and Inns
Reviewed April 13, 2013 via mobile

I stayed here with my 2 children this month. The food service and accommodation was suburb and great value for money. The place looks very nice with its refurbishment. The bar has been transformed completely as well as the restaurant. If you have been before you must return and see the changes! I will certainly be returning soon.

This was a last minute booking and was from late rooms. i paid £19 for a single room including breakfast................absolutely brilliant and well worth that !!!
The atmosphere was good, food amazing and staff very pleasant.

Room Tip: I had a single room that was small but ideal for one. And for the price, well worth it

This has always been a handily placed venue, but it was getting tired, so we hadn't used it for over a year.

We were keen to try it, given the encouragingly attractive exterior, with decent outdoor furniture, new signage etc. Even the sign proclaiming two meals for £9-95 didn't put us off....irony coming up later....

Having failed to get in on Easter Sunday and only just managing to squeeze in the following Friday, it seemed we were far from alone in wishing to rediscover a place which used to trade mainly on the fact the Queen stayed there once when she was trapped in the snow. And for those with a long memory, it's fame for being the very first Berni Inn, a chain which did more for affordable mass market eating out than any other.

The immediate impression is good. Much thought has gone into the interior, the staff seem newly enthusiastic and eager to please and there is generally a pleasant atmosphere.

We had much discussion over the menu and whether the '2 for a tenner' meals would be reduced size portions of those appearing elsewhere on the page for almost double the price. After being assured by the waitress they were full size portions, neither of us could resist the value, though our friends elected to choose otherwise, probably just to show they reluctance to penny pinch.

As our waitress had promised, we received our full size meals, which seemed every bit as good as those of our companions. All of us enjoyed the food and the evening and will definitely return regularly.

Don't expect cordon bleu, but for good value nosh in comfortable, pleasant surroundings, there is no need to look any further.

We stayed here over the Easter weekend for 3 nights, we arrived quite late and were made welcome upon our arrival. We had a Superior double room, Queen Elizabeth 2nd, this was of good size, clean and comfy, nice bath and shower, although the light was broken in the bathroom, this did not bother us. The bar is very nice, calm and pleasant and really enjoyed sitting around in the evening having a couple of drinks.
The most important thing to point out is all the staff are very attentive, polite and work hard to make you feel welcome.
Breakfast is very good, with a buffet choice of cereals, fruit, pastries and juices, followed by food you can order, such as cooked breakfastd, scramble or poached eggs or porridge etc....
We ate in the restuarant on 2 evenings, the menu is good and varied, the chef just needed to take a little more care and attention on how it leaves the kitchen, however these issues were rectified quickly by the staff.
All in all we really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it and would return.
Thank you to all the staff

We stayed at this hotel last year & the service, food & hospitality was excellent although the hotel had seen better days. It has now been refurbished & they have addressed the dated rooms issues. The same excellent staff remain & the food is excellent quality & good value. All the staff are very friendly & nothing is too much trouble, they even loved our dog. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are allocated for dogs for easy access to the garden.

I have friends who live in Bristol and I in Cirencester, this was an a great place to meet up. I had never been here before but had past it on many occasions. They advertise £9.95 2 main course's, I was not disappointed. Great value for money. We plan to meet up on a regular basis at the Cross Hands. Staff were very friendly, Food was good and the restaurant/bar very pleasant. Well worth a visit.
