Stayed for a night at the hotel. Friendly service, clean tastefully finished room and good breakfast. No complaints would stay again.

“Not quite 'fit for a queen'”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2014

As you may be aware the Queen got stranded in this pub ages ago due to dodgy weather and stayed the night, it's famous for that. Overall we had a nice time & fast service even though the restaurant was full and we ate in the bar. I orderd some Sauv Blanc (new zealand) at the bar and honestly it was the best white wine i've had ever in a pub, gorgeous. We were advised there was a wait by the bar chap but wait wasn't long at all & we were quite happy. The food was ok - pate starter very good, mains - my pheasant & bason casserole had ONE piece of bacon in it, the mash potato had obviously been made about 5 hours ago on a tray left in the heater and was incredibly dry with a dry old crust attached it to. My husbands food was very good (cheese & bacon beefburger) but portion was a bit small. Friendly bar staff, good service, food quality let it down a bit that's all. It's always busy here so we thought it would be excellent but just a bit disappointed. They need to make the food quality a bit better to entice us back for another meal although I might go back ust for that lovely wine!

“Very Happy with the food.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2014 via mobile

While visiting friends in Bristol, we ate here twice. None in the party had any complaints. The atmosphere was nice, not loud and crowded. It was pleasant and comfortable. We all felt the prices were very reasonable and all the staff extremely friendly. If it's on the menu, don't pass up the clotted cream cheesecake.

I can't speak for the hotel part of it, but what I saw it looked clean and well kept.

“Suprise Cashew Nut Paella”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

The suprise is there are no nuts!! Good flavour and consistency but no obvious nuts and no flavaour of nuts! I thought this was funny as in ha ha so mentioned it to the waiter who spoke to the Chef who reported that they are so finely grounded you cant see them (or taste them)!!

We had a starter of Ciabatta with olives, balsamic vinegar and olive oil - warm bread and very tasty on a cold winters evening.

My husband had chicken and chips - I do think some greenery would have been good to add to this dish but not as an extra cost. It should have had a dressing/coleslaw that didnt arrive and when we asked the waiter he spoke to the chef (again) who said they had run out of it!! they gave us some limp lettuce leaves to replace it. Disappointing that they didnt tell us when the dish came out and the alternative was poor.

The actual interior is very nice, comfortable, nice log fire burning and comfortable chairs. However the food very very disappointing.

We did have an excellent waiter tall slim young man with longish fair hair.
