My fiance and I stayed here for (regrettably) only one night, along with my nine year old daughter. The owners, Herbie and Annette were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. They helped us set up our tour of the rain forest and let us use their discount. Horse back riding and swimming in the cool, crystal clear river is another fun option for family-friendly activities. The grounds were bursting with beautiful tropical flowers and butterflies. The cabins were pleasantly rustic and clean, and the sounds of the river and the surrounding nature were amazing. Annette cooked as a filling and tasty organic meal, followed by a hearty breakfast. She is talkative, friendly and full of wonderful advice for travelers! If you are a nature-lover who likes a personable touch, this is the perfect place for you!!

As others have mentioned, we chose Casa Rio Blanco as a very quick stopover on our way from La Fortuna to the Caribbean coast. I did regret not having a bit more time here, especially since it rained for about 12 hours straight while we were there.

At any rate, the property is absolutely gorgeous, with swarms of butterflies to greet you, a great garden, small waterfall, and nice lodge. As mentioned, Annette was very welcoming. You do feel like you are sleeping right in the jungle, which on our night took some getting used to since there was a lot of loud rain, thunder and lightning. But I do wish we had stayed a bit longer to hike or view some more wildlife in the area.

Room Tip: We stayed in a cabin with a king bed (largest bed we had in CR), bunk beds, and a single, perfect fo...

My boyfriend and I stayed at Casa Rio Blanco for one night in May (we were going from La Fortuna to Puerto Viejo and wanted to make a stop near Guapilès to experience the Rainforest Adventures in Parque Nacional Braulio Carrillo).
The place is far from the road and we had a really warm welcome at our arrival. The owner, Herbie (Annette was on a trip), is a wonderful man. He helped us reserve the Rainforest Adventures and gave us very useful advices. At night, he cooked us the BEST coconut rice we ever tasted (we've been reproducing his recipe to impress our friends haha).
Yes, we had a dead beetle stucked between the wall and the net. Yes, my boyfriend saw a HUGE bug in the bathroom. Yes, small ants were passing next to our bed all night long. Despite all that, we keep wonderful memories of our stay. We wanted to feel far from home, and that's what we've got!
Also, this place looks truely like a piece of paradise. To fall asleep to the sounds of water and frogs is magical, and you have to experience it at least once.
So if you're not too scared about all that and you think you can handle a night in the wild, book now, you'll be glad you did. It's really a nice adventure out of your comfort zone.

Hard to find, La Marina is just a road with a lot of traffic. Bumpy road leads toward a lodge in the middle of the jungle. Lots of animals. Rooms have no mosquito nets, and the windows do not keep the mosquito's outside. Bed is large, but bad quality matrass. Shower with elektricity wiress. Room is basic, definately not worth 77 USD.
Female owner very loud and not professional. Male owner oké. If you would like an alteritive, go to Heliconia island. Same price, good quality.

My husband and I spent a week in this quant paradise. Our hosts were delightful and extremely knowledgable of the local flora and fauna and assisted my husband in photographing many species of birds and other critters. We have stayed at many Ecolodges, and this is by far the most comfortable yet. Our room was surrounded by screens which overlooked the rain forest and river below. We truly enjoyed feeling one with nature and falling asleep to the sounds of chirping frogs and the rushing river. Our hosts also arranged a fantastic trip to Tortuguero were we had an incredible guide named Castor. We canoed through canals in stealth mode and were privileged to witness 3 species of monkeys, several turtles, caymen and exotic birds. Our hosts also arranged a fantastic hike to a magnificent waterfall where we were surrounded by morphs.
We highly recommend Casa Rio Blanco. Comfortable rooms, hot showers, great breakfast. We even had some very tasty dinners. For nature lovers.

This is a wonderful place to stay after you fly into the busy San Jose airport and are on your way to the coast. It's too long a drive to make it in one day, plus you will miss too much driving at night, and the heavily traveled highway isn't safe. So pull over and stay at least one night in this comfortable, welcoming B&B. You will fall asleep to the sounds of lizards and birds chirping and the rush of the waterfalls in nearby Rio Blanco. Your host is ready with a relaxing bottle of wine and a tasty dinner. The king-size bed is comfortable, and your room has a screened-in porch. Quiet, restful and beautiful. Wake up to the sounds of the river and wildlife. Don't miss it!

Room Tip: We stayed in a cabin. It was great. Also convenient to use a GPS device to get out of San Jose. Seem...
