“Two night stay”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

It was an absolutely beautiful hotel. All the staff were professional and friendly. However, the quality of our room was poor Blankets on the bed, horridly uncomfortable bed and cold. Which given we had a new baby caused a lot of anxiety.

Room Tip: See the room before paying.

Thanks for the positive feedback re the hotel and our staff. Although we have not had any complaints about this room from other guests we would have been able to provide better facilities for the baby had we had prior knowledge of his/her arrival. All beds and bedding are new following our recent refurbishment. Hope we can welcome you back for another visit in the near future.

I visited this hotel en route to a business engagement and found it to be 'in the middle of nowhere'. However it is absolutely lovely and the restaurant beautiful. The room was basic and tired. It had cracks in the walls and too much wasted space. There is no iron or complimentary water. The menu is too fancy for me on a work night and it could do with some basic dining, however it was very good what I did have. Breakfast is fine also and good surroundings but slow. Overall I liked the hotel but it wasn't as busy as the website suggested. In fact it was pretty dead. I was a bit disappointed with the reception as there was no one there when I arrived and I had to shout the barman to check me in. Even then they were not that keen. Not five star.

Thank you for your review and your appreciation of the restaurant and food quality. Apologies for the welcome - January 8th was a very quiet night and manager Paul was trying to cover the reception and bar. All the bedrooms in the hotel have recently been re-furbished and there is some settlement causing one or two cracks - these will be fixed shortly. The room you stayed in (Room 2) is a large executive room with King Size bed - we don't get many complaints about its spaciousness. The bed can be converted to a twin which does use a bit more of this space.

Not sure about your comments re menu - on the night you stayed the Market Menu included Avocado & Prawn; and Melon & Parma Ham starters, plus Chicken, Ham & Leek Pie; Belly Pork & Sage Mash; and Baked Cod & Spinach mains. You enjoyed our delicious Fish & Chips from the a la carte menu. We try to achieve a blend of inventive & more basic dishes to suit all.

Thanks again for the review - we would love to welcome you back, hopefully on a more lively night.

Booked this hotel for my parents who are in their 70's. the room was overlooking the court yard and had a oak beam and great en suite. We ate in the restaurant on the Saturday evening and can only praise the food and staff. Apparently the breakfast was also very good and my parents have booked to return to this hotel in march

A one night stay at a comfortable friendly hotel. Would stay again as only a few minutes from the M40. Full English breakfast was up to standard, bed was comfortable, and nice old building with parking in enclosed courtyard.

We stayed at the Cartwright over Christmas under the "Christmas Break" arrangement.

We had a really good time and found the food excellent and the accommodation very comfortable. We were very impressed with the friendly and helpful staff - we note that a previous reviewer termed it "relaxed professionalism" - and that is a phrase we can fully agree with.

We would certainly stay again and are happy to recommend this Hotel.

We stayed here for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day while visiting relatives nearby. All I can say is that it was a very, very pleasant stay characterised by friendly, helpful staff; scrumptious, high quality food; spacious and comfortable accommodation and all at a very reasonable price.
Would definitely stay again and thoroughly recommend.

Stayed here 12 and 13 December on a Travelzoo offer that included two nights D, B&B and tickets for Warwick Castle. Overall we found the Cartwright very good especially the food and friendliness of the staff which really could not be faulted. The deal we had was excellent value.

Unfortunately, we managed to pick the coldest two days of the winter so far and consequently struggled to keep warm with the outside temperature below freezing. We initially booked a standard courtyard room but the management kindly upgraded us to a superior room in the main building which was very much appreciated. I am sure the courtyard rooms are fine in the summer but in the depths of winter it is probably better to be in the main building.

The hotel has much character and the bar will be cosy when the heating is supplemented with a word burning stove which I understand is due for installation. The restaurant is excellent and we had two very enjoyable meals. The second night we were joined by friends and they also complimented the food and accompaning service. Choose the cheese platter on the main desert menu as it will not disappoint. It is amazing!

Aynho itself is a pleasant enough village but has no shops or other restaurants so the hotel is the only place to eat. However, based on our expeience this is not a disadvantage because of the very high standard of the restaurant. This is a well managed hotel where all the staff work as a team to create a very pleasant atmosphere.

Room Tip: When it is likely to be cold make sure you are in the main building!
