My wife and I stayed for two nights in this attractive village on the Oxfordshire / Northamptonshire border. Like many other guests, we took advantage of a Travel Zoo offer – two night’s bed, breakfast and dinner for under £200. We elected for a superior bedroom for a small supplement. Our room was large with an additional sitting area. There was plenty of storage, ample refreshments and two TVs in the room. The wi-fi worked perfectly. The bathroom was of a good size, although a lick of paint would have freshened up its appearance. There was ample hot water at a good pressure. There were basic toiletries provided.

In the evenings, we ate in the restaurant. The food was of an extremely high standard. The menus, although not extensive, provided ample variety. It was a little disappointing to find that the crockery was sometimes chipped – I experienced this phenomenon on seven different occasions which seemed rather excessive for a two night stay.

Our stay included anything from the a la carte dinner on the first night, a selection from the market dinner menu on the second night and breakfast on both days. The breakfast again was of a very high standard – although the cooked options were either full English or smoked haddock with a poached egg. There was also the usual fruit, yoghurts and cereals.

We thought the service was generally attentive the whole stay represented a bargain. We also took advantage of the free entry to Blenheim Palace on our departure day. This was an appealing bonus.

There were some aspects of our stay that were a little less than perfect which prevented us from giving our stay a ‘5’ rating – 4.5 would be more appropriate. These included a bed cover that was slightly stained, as well as the aforementioned chipped crockery. Such deficiencies could easily be rectified to enhance the feel good factor.

Special mention should be given to the young receptionist who greeted us on our arrival and took a genuine interest in our wellbeing. Likewise, the manager was very hands-on. The friendly atmosphere adds considerably to the charm of staying in this country hotel.

Booked this on our first Travelzoo deal back in May. Booked a Superior Room on advice from the Staff and was pleasantly surprised on arrival. We had our own sitting room and a very large and comfortable bed. We also had a window seat both in the bedroom and sitting room which was a nice touch. The bathroom was a good size and spotlessly clean. The food was excellent and in our opinion, not as other reviewers have stated, fussy or over priced. We had a 3 Course meal on both evenings and breakfast on both mornings and could not fault a single thing. In our experience this is very unusual. Definite high point was the staff who were friendly and attentive except when they forgot to bring our drinks we had ordered which they then gave us free of charge with profound apologies. A special mention has to go to Gary Morgan who really made our weekend with his cheery attitude and cheeky banter and again in our opinion a real asset to the Hospitality Industry.

Also included was a free pass to Blenheim Palace which is a definite must for any one with an interest in Stately Homes or leisurely walks in beautiful parkland
We are the sort of people who will complain robustly if things are not as advertised or expected. For a 3* break we could not find a single fault and would return without hesitation.
Very well done to all the staff who made our break really enjoyable

Room Tip: We think the upgrade was well worth the money

I booked this break at the last minute for our anniversary through Travelzoo on the recomendation from fellow trip advisors. On arrival we were warmly greeted by Paul the manager. It was only 12.o clock but our room was ready for us. The sun was shining for a change so we decided to have a drink outside and then take the hotels deal and go to Stowe gardens ( see seperate review ). I can only endorse what has already been written. The staff are ALL very helpful, friendly and do everything to make your stay enjoyable. The food is good and always nice and hot. Special thanks to Paul who always had a smile on his face and time to talk to you. Also Olivia, who helped make our stay so special. We would definately recomend and will return.

Firstly, I was handed this booking as a colleague couldn't go so from the outset I should say this isn't my kind of hotel. The hotel is very expensive in comparison to what I would normally choose, but but it might actually be economical for its type I guess.

The hotel looks to be a converted barn, and the outside rooms indeed look like they were originally stables. For the price paid, I thought one room comprising a double bed with a separate bathroom were a trifle expensive. Ive seen bigger Travelodge rooms. My bed didn't appear to have any openable windows either. The rooms outside all seem to be wheelchair accessible and some have ramps.

The car park itself does get quite busy and there are some limited parking outside on the road immediately outside of the hotel. Our food was included in the booking and in my view was quite expensive and a bit too clever (again probably not really my type). The options for vegetarians were limited, but they seem to be adaptable with the menu if asked. There is a steak night on Thursdays. Booking is probably advisable at the weekends, although I didn't have to do so on the Sunday.

The staff are the strongest point of this hotel. They are cheerful and helpful with any requests, and stay around so if you are here for more than a few days you get to know them a bit more.

I stayed here for the British Grand Prix in Silverstone. The hotel is just before the main road into the venue (A43). If you have tickets for Club Silverstone then read the instructions for getting to the venue very carefully. On the first day, I didn't read them carefully and ended up going through the hell that is the main route into Silverstone on first practice day. Once you join the A43 heading that way you are stuck so be careful.

To be truthful, unless you are prepared to leave very early 5 to 6am every day I would not recommend this hotel as it would be quite tiring driving there. If you have booked tickets or, as in my case, you have a car park reserved then this may be ok. I stayed in one of the hospitality car parks (I think it was Hospitality East Car Park but can't be sure) and that route takes about 1 hour and involves heading straight over the roundabout towards and around Buckingham and past a place called Maid marden or something.

Elsewhere, the nearest pub is a 25 minute walk that isn't too safe but is doable if you're careful. To get to the pub go out of the hotel entrance, turn right, then right at the end of the road, and then a left. Follow the road underneath the motorway and you'll see the pub there on the right. It's more of a dinner style pub but does have a nice garden and is also right alongside the canal, which is beautiful.

Room Tip: The rooms outside seem a bit more discreet.

Stayed on a travelzoo deal of 2 nights inc breakfast and 3 course evening meals and trip to Blenheim Palace. The food was of a high standard both in taste and presentation and far exceeded our expectations and would be the main reason i would return for another stay at the Cartwright.
Stayed in room 15 which was at the end of the block in the courtyard. The room was clean and the bed very comfy and the only faults i could pick were that the extract fan in the shower wasnt working and the shower was struggling to drain (once reported to reception it was attended to and was fine that evening). This in no way had a negative impact on our stay and must also mention all the staff we met were fantastic and couldnt do enough for you.
All in all probably amongst the best hotels we have had the pleasure to stay in and we are definitely goin to return in september if we get the time off to do so.
And all this for under £200..... i would happily have paid a lot more.
Special mention for the members of staff who did the charity skydive....well done and we were happy to add a fiver to your collection.
Lookin forward to returning when we get the chance.

We stayed over the night before a family wedding and would highly recommend the Cartwright. Our party of five included a lady of 85 with limited mobility and the rooms around the Courtyard worked really well although there are a few steps to get in and out of the restuarant, some sturdy handrails meant this wasnt a problem.

The food in the restaurant gave a varied choice to suit all tastes and the attentive but unobtrusive service was a credit to the team at the Cartwright.

We have stayed previously as a family and our second visit certainly matched that of our first, we hope to return for a family birthday in November.t

Room Tip: For guests with limited mobilty the Courtyard rooms particularly 18 and 19

We have just returned from a three night stay at the hotel with other family members who were all attending a wedding. The rooms are clean and tidy, although I would reccommend if you are not totally mobile that you ask for a room in one of the chalet style rooms around the courtyard as the rooms in the hotel do have steps leading up to the bathrooms which can be tricky to negotiate. The evening meal was very good and the breakfasts which are cooked to order are superb, you can have just about anything you like to eat in a morning. The one outstanding feature of this hotel is the staff, they are so friendly and do everything possible to make your stay a welcome one, nothing you ask for is too much trouble for them. They certainly make the Hotel a great place to stay.
