“What you pay is what you get”

My friends and I decided to go to this place, since we're running out of time. (My friend had to leave the Philippines in a week)

So without reading the reviews about this place, we went there.

ROOM: Our room is neat. The aircondition is OLD and leaking water. Quite disturbing when we sleep. You can't adjust the temperature, because the controller is with the receptionist. PLUS there's no phone inside the room. So you have to go down to contact the staff which is tiring since our room was on the second floor.

AMBIENCE: The place is simple. It has a 6ft-deep pool. A jacuzzi that is open only at night. The water is warm and clear. Although its small. You still get to somehow..unwind. :)

BEACH: I'm not a beach person, I don't really like beaches with black sands or rocky-ish. Well, Calatagan has BLACK sands. ugh..
Anyway, their beach is not well-maintained. It is dirty because of plastic cups, candy wrappers and stuff. At morning, There's NO SHORELINE. But the fishermen told us that the water will subside at night. Its true! We get to walk far from the resort.

STAFF: The staffs are Okay. They don't smile to the guests.

FOOD: Our breakfast was only good for two. If you go in group, better bring some food. Breakfast is good. :)
Their Pizza is expensive and under cook. Terrible.

The hotel is supposed to offer swimming pool and jacuzzi, but the water is very dirty (it was confirmed that they change it ONCE A YEAR) and the jacuzzi is not working (you get bubbles but no hot water - how on earth is that supposed to be a jacuzzi?)
Also air conditioning units are very noisy and old. The staff are polite as with most Filipinos but the management (Australian) cannot be bothered to spend any money (how much does changing the water cost?). We decided to leave and go to another hotel. Avoid, just a total waste of time and money. Also location-wise, it is far away from any city unless you have a car, and you cannot swim in the sea either, until you walk for about ten minutes. Better go to Matabungkay beach.

Expensive for a Filipino hotel and dirty. Had to tell the management that green pool water is not exactly clean. Although they did agree, after a few minutes of discussion to clean the water. The lagoon was cool but somewhat gritty from the algea so if you will go there swim after high tide comes in since the water is still clear and pleasant. Practically the whole lagoon is shallow.
I advise to skip this hotel altogether due the comparatively high price and the desolation you are forced to be into since the local town is 30 minutes away. If you must stay the staff is very nice like most filipinos and I suggest going out to the lagoon beach and just ask for a boat to ferry you around. 2000 to 2500 pesos should do for the whole day of beach jumping and snorkeling. Snorkeling was fun there though. That price is for a bigger boat.
The beach has ferry boats that take you further out and you could swim around in 5 foot water and have a bbq. Bring your own food and bbq coals if not then you could give the boat caretaker "Emma" money to cook something for you the next day.

If you don't want to fly out to Palawan, or Boracay there are other places that are really cool in the Philippines. There's Bagasbas beach in Daet, Puerta de Galerta, Subic Bay, etc.

Oh, one warning, Filipinos love karaoke. I mean really love it, all night long.

Hope this helps from an American with Filipino descent traveler.
