If you want to do a Trek and ensure that you don't get lost somewhere that kalavantin Durg is the place. The most Peculiar thing about this trek and the trail which leads to prabalgad which is the base village is that there is only one way which leads to the base village, and hence there is no chance of getting lost + the duration is a big advantage which is only one and a half hour from the base village of thakurwadi to prabalgad where you can rest for the full night. If you stay in Mumbai thakurwadi with is the base village is only 60 kilometres from so it's not such a long journey and you can stay overnight at prabalgad in tented accommodation which is not so costly.
In morning you have two options, you can either do kalavantin Durg which is hardly 45 to 50 minutes steep climb from prabalgad or you can opt for prabalmachi Fort. Both the places are fabulous and offers fantastic views. No need for guide and no need to worry about food.

Tread with caution as this place can be a bit risky for trekking. Lots of walking so wear comfortable pair of shoes.

Kalavantin durg trek with Prabalgad is the popular trekking destination in Maharashtra. It offers an exciting trek which involves walking on the mountain edge. The location of thia place is following Prabalmachi Plateau between Matheran and Panvel, near Thakurwadi village, Panvel, Maharashtra. Betwee September to January is the best time to visit this place and I'd suggest you guys not to visit here during monsoon season, as it will become slippery and heavy shooting stone could be the situation here. This fort is at an elevation of 670 meters (2200 feet) above mean sea level. It is a popular hill forts along with its twin fort Prabalgad. This peaks stand near Prabalmachi plateau between Karjat & Panvel regions of Maharashtra. Out of these 2, Prabalgad fort has the highest elevation of 2300 feet whereas Kalavantin peak is 2200 feet high. Thick woods, windy atmosphere and foggy weather makes this place an amazing spot after heavy monsoons. Kalavantin durg trek is one of the most exciting treks in Sahyadri Mountain Range.

Kalavantin was a difficult experience for me as a new trekker. It requires a lot of patience to reach at the top. Monsoon or rainy climate not preferred. Not a trek for 1st timers or newbies. Trek level:- Moderate to Difficult. Good trekking shoes is a must. Scarf for covering hair is a must. Try carrying less weighing bag-packs. Descend is difficult too.
