“Typical chain hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2012

The Swan was more or less what we expected in a Weatherspoons hotel.
It was OK, but nothing special. Room was comfortable and clean, and, apart from some, presumably inebriated, guests knocking on our door, in the early hours, we had a restful night.
The staff were lovely, right down to the security guy politely asking us to drink up at closing time.

I stayed two nights for a concert I was attending in Milton Keynes and even though Leighton Buzzard was a bit farther than I anticipated, it was still well worth staying at the Swan Hotel.

The staff were super friendly, letting me check in early, making conversation, and coming downstairs at 2 AM to let me in the side door. :) I had a single room which looked amazing to me, having spent so much time in hostels recently. There was a big screen TV, kettle to make tea, free water and cookies, and a little closet space where I could unpack everything. The bathroom was big and had a shower and tub, which came in handy when I came back from the concert with muddy feet. The only problem I had with the room at any point was that the window wouldn't stay propped open for very long, but it wasn't very hot anyway. Unfortunately the walls are quite thin so I could hear people coming back from the bar in the middle of the night. However, the beds are comfortable enough that a good night's sleep is still possible.

The location is a bit far from the train station (about 10-15 minutes walk) but on the way there is a 24-hour Tesco. High Street also hosts a market on Saturdays which you can walk right into from the restaurant entrance, and it makes for a pleasant view from the rooms facing the street. :)

Thanks for a great stay!

We stayed here as part of a christening party as it is centrally located in the high street which was handy for us walking to the church. The rooms were very comfortable and well decorated, but it is by far the hottest room I have ever stayed in! The first night was unbearable and I hardly slept due to the heat and a very large, noisy flue pipe right outside our window! The second night was slightly better after obtaining a fan from reception. Air conditioning would erradicate any such problems. I would have liked to have foam pillows and duvet instead of feather. Unfortunately on the morning we were leaving the water pump broke and there was no water in the hotel. This was annoying as we wanted to wash before starting our long homeward journey. This was not the hotel's fault and the receptionist said that we could have a complimentary breakfast and drinks in the bar. We ordered without a problem, but while waiting for our breakfast the bar person told us that we would have to pay for the drinks despite being told they were complimentary! This annoyed me immensely. I asked the hotel receptionist for a discount for the inconvenience caused by the loss of water. She was happy to knock some money off. Overall the hotel stay was a pleasant one.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the car park and ask for a fan upon check-in.

second trip to leighton area for me and so glad i found this place, i tend to stay away from chains but after my exp at another "B&B" in the area a few weeks ago, i thought i would go for the safe option and lovely it was, the real ale selection for me was a bonus.

We enjoyed our stay at this recently refurbished Hotel in the town centre. However, I had read reviews warning that there could be some rooms suffering from noise at the weekends. With this in mind we requested a quiet room and was offered a room on the third floor but was advised that the room might be warm and was offered a complimentary fan, which we took advantage of. I have to say that we found the room to be very hot, with the windows only opening a couple of inches [health and safety] you could not get any circulation of air. We also found the noise from the local environ really noisy on the Saturday nighht going on until very early morning, especially "boy racers" in the adjacent public car park at the rear of the Hotel. In no way is the Hotel responsible for this of course but it was annoying as the room was so hot you could not close the window to shut out this noise. I am led to believe from talking to the staff that the Hotel is restricted to what it can do in relation to air conditioning et cetera due the building listed status.
We found the staff to be excellent and the breakfast must be the best value breakfast in town, with a full english breakfast for £2.99! This is a very good Hotel for the price, just a shame about the problems they face with keeping the rooms to a comfortable temperature.Would we stay there again yes probably but only in winter!

Room Tip: Not sure what to advise, probably the higher the floor the less noise you might suffer, but heat ris...

We had our wedding reception at the Swan - High Street - Leighton Buzzard 20 years ago and it was one of the venues to book. Fabulous. 19 years on we returned after living abroad to find it closed, crumbling and boarded up, absolutely awful to see. But a year later it is open and we are booked for the weekend.

First obvious thing on arrival - there are THREE parking spaces - 2 for disabled and one for a Toyota MR2 that got the one other space and ain't moving ever again! There is a huge (non-hotel) car park immediately behind at £6 a day so you can at least park at a price.

We booked two rooms - one double for me and the wife - small, almost uncomfortably small but well decorated and presented. View of nothing really to the side. The other (for my old ma and friend) a family room - she needed a twin for her and friend but none available - so a family room was a workable alternative (but a tenner a night more!).

As you will have probably read, everything about weekend rooms at the front of the hotel is true - on Friday nights it doesn't shut up till every last drunken reveller has found an engine running, radio on taxi directly below. By 3-30am taxis have taken everyone home and all is quiet. Till 5am when the Leighton Buzzard market starts it's set up - and that takes a while as you might imagine.

Having said that, our non-front of hotel room was fine in regard to noise - but for a Saturday night please be crystal clear - if you get a room at the front you WILL get significant kicking out/market setting up noise.

On the plus side the staff are pretty much all friendly and helpful, the blonde receptionist lady is a cut above, a real star - knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The bar staff also very good - but sadly so understaffed. For example on Sunday, the place is full of folk coming for the Wetherspoons Sunday roast (and rightly so) but just 3 behind the bar. As is usual in Wetherspoons pubs, one gets asked for a cappuccino and that's him gone for 10 minutes and the other 2 try to serve all the sunday roasters - it was ridiculous at times.

It sounds like a critical review - it isn't meant to as the return of The Swan is a great thing for Leighton Buzzard - and Wetherspoons know how to do it - I can report as a resident last weekend, it is packed from breakfast (very good) through lunch and into the evenings and is a good place to be. Shame about the weekend noise but in general, a great hotel and bar.

I am glad to see you enjoyed your stay with us and are happy to see The Swan back to it superb self.
As mentioned in our hotel description we do not provide guest parking apart from the 2 spaces for the 2 disabled guest rooms. But as you mentioned there is a very large car park at the rear.
We hope to see you again soon.
