My fourth or fifth visit to this pretty canalside pub - and will certainly go again. My most recent experience started poorly because I went with a group of eight only to find the place packed. We were all just about to leave when a very attentive barman offered to re-organise tables and chairs to accommodate us. There followed a very knowledgeable chat with him about real ales, then food orders which included off-menu sandwiches. A go-the-extra-mile experience which was much appreciated.

The Globe has had a makeover since we last visited, some external works still evident when we visited. Nice clean pub, friendly atmosphere. Food ok and not too badly priced. Kids playground out of bounds due to flooding during our visit. Will be a cracking pub in the summer, sitting outside watching the narrowboats pass by.

We had booked a table several days in advance for 4 for a birthday on a Sunday. When we arrived, they couldn't find our booking and we were informed without an apology that there were no meat roast dinners of any type left, this was at 5pm. The closest alternative was lamb shank, which wasn't on the 2 for £9.95 post 5pm deal, and was instead £11.99 each.

The meals were nice but the total food cost was considerably more than expected. The service was OK and the restaurant itself is in a lovely location and nicely decorated inside.

Hopefully this was a one off and they will learn for the future.

After a winters walk along the grand union canal we came across this quaint pub on the towpath. We popped in for a lunchtime snack.
The staff were attentive and the landlord humorous and entertaining. All in all we were made very welcome. Even got a jacket potato on a Sunday, when the menu said we couldn't!
