Description: This canalside pub serves up hearty food, traditional ales and wonderful views over the water. Located beside Lock 28 of the Grand Union Canal, it's a shining example of a great English local pub.

Met up with friends for lunch at this pub. The decor , cleanliness of the pub and toilets excellent . Staff all very friendly . Two of us chose the Cod and Chips with peas , the other two chose the homemade chicken, ham and mushroom pie. I can confirm that the homemade pie was excellent . The ladies reported that their meal was likewise. The Service could not be faulted.
We will return when we are in the area. Well done and Thank you.

This pub is a good halfway meeting place for us and our previous visit was quite pleasant. We arrived promptly for our booking to find only one person "welcoming people". There appeared to be plenty of staff about. Then someone who came in after us was shown to their table. Then somebody else came to the bar and was served before us. By this time we were frustrated. Then when we were spoken to then didn't appear to have our booking. I ordered chips and was brought potato wedges which were unpleasant. The soup ordered by 2 other members of our party was too hot but the butter was so cold it couldn't be spread on the bread. Service generally slow. All round a rather unmemorable experience. Will think twice before going again.

We were due to be in the area one Sunday lunchtime on a family trip over Xmas and prebooked lunch at the Grove Lock.
With 10 of us to serve (ranging in age from under 1 to nearly 70) and various members of the party asking for slight variations from the printed menu (salad for crisps, chips for mash etc) things could easily have got confused but we were served patiently & accurately and the food very tasty (although as others have reported, the menu choice is a little limited).
