“Nice place in the middle of nowhere”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

We stayed here one night on our trip from Lanbebaan to Fish River Canyon in Namibia. The hotel is located a few miles outside the city center with nice views over the landscape and desert areas. Very friendly staff and nice big rooms with outside space.

The day we where there the restaurant where closed - but no problems. The staff set up private braai for you with nice lamb chops and a fresh salad. Some beers and wine where no problem to get either.

Overall, a very nice place to stay over if you are driving pass this area.

Value for Money is just excellent.

Room Tip: Rubens suite is a very nice room with 2 outside spaces.

We checked in having booked, paid a deposit and re confirmed the Ruben Suite only to be told we could not have it as there was a Wedding at some point during our stay. After rather a lot of fuss which made me feel very uncomfortable we were given it. The suite is supposed to be the honeymoon suite but it is very dark with old dark wood furniture , poor lighting and needs a facelift. The sheets were not changed once during our stay . Breakfast is very disappointing with a poor selection of cold buffet and the same fruit every day , and not much else to choose from. The breakfast room was hot with loads of flies and the air con either did not work or was broken .
The swimming pool was dirty and the area around it very uninteresting . The jacuzzi which was outside our room was empty , broken and smelly .
Unfortunately our whole experience was not good .

We stayed the night on our journey from Windhoek to Cape Town. Room was very clean and spacious, especially since we were traveling with 2 children. Dinner in restaurant was good and breakfast the next morning was also very hearty. Staff very helpful and accommodating.

We stayed overnight, breaking our journey between Cape Town and Luderitz, Nambia. The last time we did this journey, we stayed at Naries Namakwa in Springbok and we thoroughly enjoyed it, but decided to give somewhere else a try.

Firstly, I made an error with the booking dates, and we were a day too early (!!!). The Daisy was still able to accommodate us, and for this we were very grateful. On the positive side, the gardens are very pleasant and the Lodge is well sign posted and easy to find. The room was also clean and tidy.

However, my big problem is sleeping in a room with no windows (Zizi's Family Room) and only a glass sliding door for daylight which you share with your next door neighbours who can see directly into your room when they walk past to get to their door. The weather was hot and sunny, but we had to have two lights switched on inside which I absolutely hated. I understand the desire to keep things dark and closed to keep heat and insects out, but it was just not for me. I felt claustrophic and hemmed in, even though the room was not small. Thank goodness for the air con which worked fine. The decor is old fashioned and needs updating, as does the television which is bordering on the antique. (But it is in keeping with the overall decor - and this is just a question of personal taste).

Being in the middle of the countryside, there are flies and mosquitoes in abundance. We swatted 16 before we went to bed and then settled down doused in repellent and under the sheets, just adding to my claustrophia no end. Of course, the insects are not the Lodge's fault and they did provide some 'Doom' spray, and a plug repellent (which was empty).

The pool was a disappointment - it was located in a square of concrete with no vegetation, plants or other decorations. The pool bottom had a lot of gravel stones in it, and the two sad looking sun loungers were really not inviting. With all the lovely gardens elsewhere at the Lodge, it's a pity that the pool has been overlooked. Especially when the temperature is hitting the 40's and you're feeling a bit claustrophobic and in need of some space.....

I had a bit of a language issue with the staff when we checked in. There were two ladies who kept telling us that they were new but this was not the problem. I have an Afrikaans surname, but I am not even South African, and I don't speak Afrikaans at all. Three times I said that I was English speaking, but still, the Afrikaans continued. The conversations then went through my husband who does speak Afrikaans, but I was completely and utterly excluded from the whole discussions. I felt very left out to say the least, especially as it was me who had made the booking. Both ladies could speak English, and I saw that the visitor's book had many guests from overseas, so speaking English should not be such a big deal. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

We did not eat at the Lodge as the menu did not appeal and I also wanted daylight, and in the morning we passed on breakfast as the flies all over our table and one in the milk didn't make for a good start, as was the thought of a seventh day on the road starting off yet again with another hot breakfast. (Not the Lodge's fault, of course).

The staff were helpful when our television did not work and otherwise, tried very hard to make our stay pleasant, after the shaky start. No complaints there. The Daisy Lodge is just not my cup of tea and we would not return there, or to Springbok again.

In our opinion, Springbok is not a destination of choice. Push on through to Ai Ais for better accommodation, or stay around the Clanwilliam or Klawer areas for better accommodation. There is a dire shortage of decent restaurants which makes a trip into 'town' memorable for all the wrong reasons. We dined at the 'Taurean' Steak House - a 1980's time warp which the toughest beef fillet I've ever had anywhere - but that is an altogether different review. Stay at the Naries Namakwa if you want a lovely, peaceful place to stay with decent food in Springbok.

Room Tip: Try to find a room with windows!

We only stayed at Daisy Lodge overnight (Sept 2012 ) and found the place accidentally as we were looking for a room for the night.
The Lodge was nearly fully booked because of the flower season so we were actually lucky to get a room.

The room ( I forgot which one we stayed in ) was very clean, nicely made up, beds were fantastic to sleep in, also shower and bathroom very clean.

We had cat company (Bobellini, as we found out later), she stayed the whole night and was very cute. It is a cat/ animal loving place anyway

The staff was friendly and helpful, specially receptionist and the chef.

The restaurant was the first place we could get vegan food!!! So we spoke to the chef (she is fairly new there I believe but very good so the statement I read here earlier was surprising ...) and she whipped up a great meal.
All the other guests who arrived one by one looked very pleased with their food, too.

Breakfast was nice with all the fresh fruit and other options.
After asking if there is a internet cafe in Springbok we even could check our e mails for free in the office.

We certainly will stay there again if we are up in that area.

Pleasant location with helpful and polite staff. Our room (Ruben) was superbly appointed and comfortable - the bed was more comfortable than Hebron. We had meal in the first night which was excellent (Lamb chops) - we thought the restaurant and the breakfast room lacked warmth and personality but that the only real complaint. A good choice.

Room Tip: Chose Ruben

Springbok doesn't have great choice when it comes to accommodation but this well run establishment ticks the boxes. Ideal as a stop-over when driving from Windhoek to Cape Town or a good base from which to see the N. Cape spring flowers, we were pleasantly surprised with the standard of personal service and quality of food served. Breakfast was a feast with home-made baked goods, eggs, bacon and all the extras prepared to order, a good selection of cheeses, cold meats and fruit, even a soufflé omelette if that's what you fancied.
Dinner was well prepared country-style cooking and very tasty. For a small guest house I was really impressed.
Rooms were clean and comfortable with private patios and the gardens were well kept and attractive. A little way out of Springbok and set among fields of flowers this was a perfect place to stay.
