“Great service in excellent location - a bargain”
Reviewed May 5, 2010

We looked for a while for a place to stay in the area before we were recomended the Tower by some friends.

Unfortunately on the drive down we were delayed and arrived very late. We called ahead and spoke to the manager who welcomed and looked after us with food, drinks and secure storage for our bikes.

We had not planned ahead but they accomodated us with an early and excellent cooked breakfast so we could make the most of our stay. The staff proved highly knowledgeable on the routes we planned to take and gave us some sage advice.

Unfortunately one of our group had a problem with their bike that would have ended their weekend but the owner found a local hire company to open and repair it on a Bank Holiday Sunday early in the morning! If this was not enough he then drove him to the repair shop, waited and drove him back.

When we came back wet and tired, we were looked after well and relaxed with a friendly bunch of locals in the bar where we discoverd they also have a very good micro brewery.

The rooms are clean, beds more than comfortable and they have all the facilities you could want including highly important drying rooms.

Don't be put off by the low prices, this is not a hostel but a small hotel and gives you service that hotels costing ten times the price would be embarassed by.

It is not a boutique luxury hotel but a great base to explore from.

In summary, if you are looking for a comfortable, perfectly located (nestling between the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains), bargain of a hotel you will not go far wrong with the tower, we will certainly be back.

Talgarth is an undiscovered jewel in a beautiful part of Wales. The hotel itself lived up to all my expectations: warm, clean rooms with a comfortable bed. The landlord and his wife were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. At night The Tower comes to life with its bustling, cosmopolitan local clientel, rich in humour and hospitality. The bar has a great selection of beers and wines. The barman, the landlord's son, is very knowledgeable about the local area and pulls a grand pint of Guinness complete with a shamrock on top! Altogether an excellent experience to be recommended to all.

Me and a three friends were looking for somehere to stay to explore "The Black Mountains" of the Beacons on our bikes. With it's location i.e. close to the foot of Y-Das Mountain, The Tower Hotel was a great place to start and indeed finish our 30 mile tour. The Landlord and Landlady were vey accomodating and helpful in all aspects, especially providing us with a huge dry storeroom (The old Firestation) to keep our clean and then very dirty bikes in. The hotel has a 'real' pub which suited us nicely and for a an extra £5 on our reasonable room rate we had a lovely English breakfast preapared by the Landlord. I would recommened that if you're thinking of booking at the Hotel, give the Landlady a ring, tell tell her what you're looking for and I'm sure you'll get a feel for what The Tower can offer.
