obviously a stiff tough road after the initial road may give you bit challenge but once u reached there u will forget all with the feeling of "This is absolutely a heaven'.Warm welcome of the staff and a cup of fresh tea was a nice gesture. Such a beautiful place in a magical setting. The view is exceptional and can look at beautiful tea plantation for hours and hours and relax. I was enchanted to see the beauty of sun rise. The staff were so genuinely friendly and helpful.. however the staff here seemed to have that little extra smile that gave the place a super feeling.
food was simple and tasty... Room was so romantic and clean...but king size bed will improve the sleep quality more preferable than to the double bed. And it is better to have an attention to install sanitary exhaust system.

Everything was creatively arranged and actually we had a day of elegance...
I definitely recommend this hotel to any one who wants have a relaxing and marvelous stay..

Superb location with fantastic views, weather permitting! Very good food including a very generous breakfast. Like a previous reviewer has mentioned there is no price on dinner which is a little concerning, however we were pleasantly surprised when we found out the price. Service can be a little slow in the day, but that's Sri Lanka for you...

The tents are lovely, great shower and a balcony to enjoy the views from. The only disappointment in ours was that the wood effect flooring in sections was broken and quite sharp to touch.

We were also a little disappointed that we couldn't book a guided walk on arrival, it seems this has to be done online prior to arrival.

Staff are all very polite, professional and helpful.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of our Sri Lanka travels, chosen so to have a couple of days to unwind and relax before heading home (booo!). We arrived on a beautiful day and were greeted warmly by staff, and given a pot of tea on the terrace while our bags were taken to our lodge. To say that the environment and facilities are stunning is an understatement - immediately we were overwhelmed with the vista and tranquility, just breathtaking. Our lodge was number 3, 'Bulbul', a good walk from the house but one of the better sited lodges we felt (though all are lovely). The lodge was gorgeous - rustic chic, fab bathroom and the room was well equipped with toiletries, water, tea etc. The balcony area is lovely too. One thing we noticed immediately was the volume of noise from the village down in the valley - quite loud music which carried very clearly up to the Madulkelle - but we headed back to the lodge for the afternoon, enjoyed a few glasses of wine on the terrace and made good use of the Wifi and magazines. The gardens are lovely, with abundant veggie patches and fruit, and of course, tea! We quickly spotted a black eagle overhead, circling very low and this was to become a feature, with frequent sightings at incredibly close proximity.
Dinner was a set meal (though we had no idea of the cost, which was a bit annoying). A log fire in the bar as the evening grew chilly and a couple of G&T's chatting with other travellers - heavenly!
We set our alarms to wake up to se the sun rise at 6am but didn;t need to as we were awoken at 5.30am by the same loud music from the village - I can't say this was a great experience, it was frankly very annoying! It wasn't a quiet murmur of music, but full-on loud - and went on for a couple of hours, then repeated throughout the day.
The staff were fabulous, particularly the guy who seem to work on the desk, he was hilarious. Al staff incredibly attentive and wanted to see to every request. Breakfast was excellent, fruit, eggs, bread, pastries and cakes, tea, coffee and fresh juice smoothies.
We went on a a mammoth hike through the village and surrounding mountains (we got lost) and then had another relaxing time on the terrace. Swam in the infinity pool which wasn't as cold as we expected but unfortunately was quite murky and cloudy due to a former 'algae' problem. A bit off-putting as once in you couldn't see your legs let alone the bottom of the pool! Dinner again was good, curry was vey nice. Only thing which was a bit annoying is that they expect you to finish and leave the bar / restaurant by 10pm and in fact the staff are quite obviously packing up and making you feel as though you have to hurry out, when it would have been nice to have relaxed by the fire for a little longer.
On the second night we both woke up in the small hours to the most vile smell of sewerage in our lodge, which was pretty horrendous. We had to place a bin over the ventilation drain in the bathroom, which didn't really help. We told management when we were checking out and they apologised but I've since read another review of the same problem.
We took a transfer back to the airport with them (quite pricey, 13,000rupees) and our favourite staff member shared the lift so he could go home for a couple of days to see his family, and it was lovely to have a bit more time with him!
A fabulous place, just a few niggles and it is pricey but wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Room Tip: The lodges nearer the house probaby don't suffer from as much noise pollution from the village as the top ones.

Madukelle is one of the most magical places I have ever stayed in my life. I feel so lucky to have had two nights in this paradise, and only wish that I had spent an entire week there.

This is, without a doubt, the most perfect hotel in the Hill Country of Sri Lanka. It was a flawless hotel experience - romantic, beautiful, great food, incredible service, cultural, eco friendly, great value, peaceful but with plenty of activities if you wanted them.

The staff is warm and helpful and although they couldn't have been more professional, they also felt like family by the time we (sadly) left. The food was the best I had anywhere in the country - their rice and curry has to be the best in Sri Lanka. I'm still dreaming about it. The rooms were perfect - clean and luxurious, but because of the screen front panel, you still felt very closely connected to the beautiful landscape.

This is how everything at Madukelle was - perfectly luxurious, but still intimately connected to the country and the villages around it. Some resorts feel very disconnected from their environment, but that is not the case with Madukelle. We even had a chance to meet local children (who were at the hotel for a dance recital) talk to their teachers, and watch them dance Bollywood sequences that they'd practiced. It started out as a charming activity, and ended up being truly moving and memorable.

The owner, Battia, was charming and is a true visionary. He cares deeply about the community and the environment AND the experiences of his guests. My only complaint is that we should have stayed longer.

Stayed 4 nights over the Christmas in the best tent of the place. Once in the lifetime place. Great view, beautiful nature, comfortable tents provided with everything you need. Food was delicious and service was friendly and with good sense of humor. They also noticed well allergy diet. Staff also arranged the best driver in the country to take us to Minneriya national park. Staff made our special day unforgettable. We will remember the moment the rest of our life!

Room Tip: Ask Hoopoe tent
