After a flight from Aukland to Queenstown and a 2 hr drive from Queenstown, we were immediately able to relax with a welcome complimentary drink from our extremely hospitable host. The room was spacious and charming, and the view from the verandah over the lake to the mountains beyond was magnificent. The Murrells started tourism in this area and Robert has continued the tradition in style.

The house is very well placed for the embarkation point for the trip to Doubtful Sound which is only a few minutes walk away.

We made this beautiful B&B our base for a number of trips into the Fiordland. The view from the house is absolutely stunning, the owners very friendly and hospitable, the rooms cozy and comfortable and the breakfast divine.

Our stay at Grand View certainly was grand!. The morning we awoke and found the mountains in the distance had been "colored in" with a rainbow was magnificent. The location was truly a hidden gem.
The rooms were large and each had its own bath. The smell of fresh cut roses from the garden greeted you as soon as you opened your room door.
Breakfast of cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs any way you likes them, bacon, coffee and tea was delicious and served in a lovely dining room.
Philippa and Robert were more than willing to do anything they could to make us relaxed and comfortable. The view from their backyard is beautiful.
This is a B+B, not a hotel. There is a beautiful beach, it was just not sunny and warm enough when we were there to take advantage. There are walking trails nearby.

Although pricey for a B&B compared to other places we stayed on our tour of NZ, Murrell's had such character and history as well as friendly and helpful owners and one of the best bedroom window views we have experienced, that we would highly recommend it. Room was spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. Breakfast was fine. Great location and convenience for touring Doubtful Sound and Fjordland. Manapouri itself very limited for evening eats etc but only a 15-20 min scenic drive to Te Anau which has all you need.

This hotel is beautifully located and perfect for a quiet few days and for seeing a lot of the splendour of the South Island. There are pleasant walks nearby, and you can walk to the boat for a trip on Doubtful Sound. We also enjoyed a day's rest there, sitting on the verandah reading books and being brought delicious morning and aftenoon teas by the hosts, the Murrells, the third generation to run this guest house. The food is wonderful and the hosts are pleasant and informative without being intrusive. We thoroughly recommend it.
