“Spectacular even when raining.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2013

We were very fortunate as the rain created the most spectacular waterfalls all the along Doubtful Sound. The cruise was very professionally organised and the visit to Manapouri Power Station was an added bonus. The boats are very comfortable with all amenities and a well stocked bar. Tea and coffee is provided free of charge. Our pre-purchased lunch was delicious and plentiful.. The staff were very friendly, and knowledgeable.

“One of the highlights of our time in NZ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

This was without doubt one of the best experiences we had during our 18months in New Zealand and even at $205 each it was worth every penny.
It was particularly busy on the day we travelled as Milford Sound was closed and they were running extra boats in the Doubtful sound instead but each boat took a different route so you felt like you had the whole area to yourself.
The trip started at 9.40am from Pearl harbour with a boat trip across Lake Manapouri which was nice and took around 50mins. There was then a 45min trip across Wilmots pass with a stop at a view point of the Sound which was great for photos. Once off the bus we were separated onto our different boats and then on our way in good time.
The trip in the sound took around 3 hours and was incredible, taking us all the way out to the coast and stopping to see a small pod of bottlenose dolphins that hung around with our boat for a while.
Winter is definitely a great time to do the trip as the waterfalls are in full flow and we were lucky to have clear blue skies on top of it.
We were back at Pearl Harbour by 5pm as we had opted not to do the power station and saw a Kea on the way which made us extremely happy.

“Just Awesome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013

Spent the day on the day cruise and was completely blown away by this untouched part of our world. Real Journeys run their tours in a most professional manner - from boarding in the morning to returning in the late afternoon, everything ran like clockwork. The conditions were perfect and I would recommend this tour to anyone.

“Beautiful fjords and lots of wildlife”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013

This was an amazing day trip to go on. They pick you up at your hotel in Queenstown, and you are on the bus for 2 hours to Te Anau, with a bathroom break in between. The boat ride in Lake Manapouri was spectacular. It was really cold when we went, so pack some warm layers and hats/gloves/scarves. Then you take another bus to the fjords, on a one lane gravel road for about 45 minutes. Then you get on another bigger boat that goes around the fjords. The fjords were amazing. We saw lots of dolphins jumping around in the water. We saw tons of seals on an island. We saw some penguins swimming in the water. Definitely recommend this trip. There's not too much walking on this trip at all. I really liked that there was free coffee and tea on the boats. We got the deluxe lunch package, I wish we had time to bring our own lunch, I think the lunch package was okay. There's two sandwiches included in each of the deluxe package, but my partner doesn't eat seafood and one of the sandwiches was salmon, which we didn't know. This trip is all day, and drops you off in the center of Queenstown, or if you're hotel is on the way, right at your hotel. Excellent overall.

“Heaven!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

We were "lucky" to have been upgraded to a cruise to Doubtful Sound as the Milford road was closed at the time. However, many locals told me this unspoilt gem is in some opinions even better than the Milford cruise. Doubtful Sound cruise is by far longer than Milford Sound and there are more waterfalls etc present. The misty effect of the rainforests added to its mystic look. It gave the feel of a heavenly paradise! On the whole I enjoyed my cruise. The packed lunch was ok, filling enough. The complimentary hot drinks on the boat was great! The boat itself was large and spacious with enough room to spread out and walk around. There is adequate time to walk around taking pictures the entire 3hrs cruise. Toilets were clean and well maintained too. As long as you're lucky to not get any rude groups of other tourists you will be bound to enjoy ur trip!
