Punakha is about four hours from Paro and is often the night halt location for those heading further into the country-side at a leisurely pace. This hotel therefore serves as an overnight halt to many passing tourists, especially since it is just off the main road. However, if you happened to spend longer you would not regret it. The river flows silently by this hotel. The staff speaks English which is a big help. The internet (wi-fi) has reasonable speeds by in-country standards but as now only available in the dining area.
The rooms are large and well-maintained. There are a number of tourists sites around this town -- two famous dzongs, the fertility temple, etc. -- all in easy driving distance from here.
I spent almost a week here in August and I felt that I had not been here long enough.

Room Tip: The couple of cottages by the river are particularly interesting.

Was pleasantly surprised at the beautiful and pristine property touching the Punatsangchu River.
Very friendly and helpful staff.

The manager is also an excellent conversationalist who is eager to learn how to improve the services of her resort.
The food was another surprise...the best! Our breakfast and dinner was Ala Carte and the chef could cook up whatever we ordered ...esp the indian fare...sometimes better than the restaurants in India also!
The rooms were well appointed. ***Make sure you ask for a room with a river view***. You will not regret it. The view in the early mornings and late evenings with the river, gardens, the mountains and clouds is indeed heavenly.
A walk to the nearby village of Lobesa to get a glimpse of Bhutanese village life was also very enlightening.

Good experience when i stay at Wangdue, located at the bank of the historic Punatshangchhu river, it gives you a delightful scenic feast of the smooth Punatshangchhu river and the villages in wangdue. The staff very friendly and best service.

The cottages also have free wifi in lobby...just their need improved the wifi service, because not so stable......Other than that .......i would give them big big like.
I will stay again, when i visit to Bhutan.

I visited the Punatsangchhu Cottages with my wife some days back. I did some analysis on the popular resorts and around Wangdue and found that this place suited our budget and had room vacancies in the slot we needed. So we decided to go ahead with this.

Bhutan is always a tricky place to visit coz of landscapes etc and we asked Antilog Vacations travel site to book this trip for us.Their rates r lower than most online agents we contacted and services very apt.2 nt paro & 3 nt thimphu was also included in the tour

The Punatsangchhu Cottages was different from the usual resorts we come across; it is not really located on any direct connected land. It is located on a sort of a plateau, which can prove to be quite appealing initially. The first look of the same really got my wife excited and she was amazed to see the mountain range crested with the valley.

You have to take a resort cab to enter the hotel premises ( we had our vehicle booked in advance) and we had to wait for some time before finding our room. Finally after selecting our room we were given cottages from where we had a decent valley view and the pine trees surrounding the resort which added to the aesthetic beauty. Moreover there are some other herbal plants too nearby which are said to have excellent medicinal values by the staff. The evenings were nice with the passing of the various rustic mountain vegetation giving nice views for sore eyes.

On the other side we relished the food and the breakfast buffet. The staff and butler services too were excellent and did not leave a lot to be desired. So all in all it was a great experience in Zamtopang and something to be recommended highly. So, if you are looking for a short trip in Bhutan you can give a look in into this Punatsangchhu Cottages. However for an extended holiday you could take your pick and explore other areas if you have choices.
Make sure u carry jackets and woolens as u ll have trouble finding them here..temperature is almost 0 at nights so take care

With the limited resources, all the staff in Punatsangchu Cottages put their best foot forward in welcoming us and providing their best services. The only part need to be improved will be the Wifi service and the f&b. Other than that, I would give all of them a Big Like. Kudos...

My family- self, wife, two boys- had a great holiday in Bhutan from 20th to 26th May 2013. In particular our stay at the Punatsangchhu cottages located on the banks of the river at Wangdue was a great experience. Drive from Thimpu to Punakha/Wangdue through the scenic Dochu Laa was a wonderful experience. Punatsanghchhu cottages provided large comfortable rooms, well maintained and stocked. Food was great with a good selection of traditional Bhutanese and Indian cuisine. Well stocked bar. Great service with staff always there to assist. The lady who owns/runs the place (Tshewang Palden) is a professional who knows to take care of her guests.....very helpful........Overall a great Experience

Room Tip: Choose the cottages by the river.......

We stayed at room no 104 0n 21 and 22 May.For someone travelling from Kolkata,a city teeming with people and crowded with buildings,it was a heavenly experience to drink it unbounded natural beauty. It was a soothing experience.I must record that my knowledge of the history and society of Bhutan is derived almost entirely from my reading of the books that I found in your library. Finally,as a friend, may I request you to improve the quality of the dinner and introduce an intercom system?
