We visited the winery for lunch on Sunday during the Labour Day long weekend. Despite the short reservation notice the restaurant manager managed to fit us in. The restaurant was full and busy. We started with some very tasty olives and bread, and then just had mains of pork belly, back strap lamb salad and smoked duck breast, wild mushroom risotto. Both the duck breast and risotto were cooked beautifully, the duck lightly smoked and just pink, and the risotto creamy and al dente. The lamb was also cooked nicely pink and tender. The pork belly was melt in the mouth and the sauce light. We tasted a number of the red wines before lunch. Most did not appeal to our palates. The various Bordeaux style blends of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc very heavy with tannins overpowering flavour of the fruit. The Syrah was like a true Rhone style and was my pick of the reds and went nicely with our meals. Most of the wine in the restaurant is available by the glass. It was a busy day and perhaps the service could have been a bit sharper.
