After moving from the inner suburbs of Melbourne and being spoiled at many fine restaurants, our dining experience since moving closer to the Yarra Valley has often been disappointing. We chose Stones after sifting through reviews and trying to find a place with some atmosphere, as this is sometimes difficult. We were certainly not disappointed with our choice and when comparing to the finest restaurants in Melbourne, it certainly doesn't disappoint. I would go as far as to say, it is one of the best dining experiences I have ever had - and I'm very fussy. We had the degustation menu where you can choose to order your own wine, or to have it matched for you. Prices are $75 or $110 per head respectively. For this price you get 5 different dishes and they are all brilliant. We started with the Chilled tomato consomme which comes in a champagne flute and is breathtakingly good. Our waitress is incredibly efficient and certainly knows her stuff, wines throughout the meal were matched perfectly. Next we enjoyed the scallops which were melt in the mouth magnificent followed by the confit of chicken, herb gnocchi and sweet corn veloute - all perfect. The lamb rump (cooked to your liking) with soft polenta, piperade and courgette puree was lovely. We were served for dessert, a tart with creme fraiche, raspberry beignets and fresh raspberries - delightful. Finished off with coffee and a large satisfied sigh. The atmosphere of this place is wonderful, old stables just as the name suggests, and they have real character reminiscent of French Farmhouse style. Beautiful large windows and over sized doors with custom ironwork and of course, soaring ceilings. Other diners are seated away from you so their conversation doesn't ruin your evening, a welcome change. Soft music, flowers and candles all add to the wonderful atmosphere. The tables are large and chunky and the chairs very comfortable. This place is so good, it deserves every accolade it receives. Don't miss this delightful dining experience. We will return!

We live in the beautiful region that is the yarra valley, renowned for its terrific wineries and restaurants. However this is not one of them. Whilst the setting is lovely, the huge but shared tables are a little unusual, even our waiter got confused with who was with who when taking orders. Whilst the menu is small, the choice is ok. We took our 6 year old child and unfortunately paid $30 for a children's menu of fish and chips. Our child was served her meal and proceeded to eat it alone as our meals arrived almost and hour and a half later. The portions were quite small considering the price and nothing spectacular. Service was ordinary to say the least, apart from the extraordinary amount of time for the food to arrive, we were not offered more wine or anything else for that matter. You can do a lot better in the area.

Do not go here for your wedding! Attended a wedding and the portions were so small we had to ask for seconds, roaming desserts took on a whole new meaning as you had to roam the venue to find them, tea and coffee were not offered and you had to order them at the bar! Was not expecting that for $195 per head. The venue is stunning, but the food and service is terrible. The staff can't wait to push you out the door!

Absolutely stunning venue, beautiful scenery, magnificent food and excellent service.
I attended a wedding function of over 100 people, everyone was served almost at once, the food was hot and plentiful, and delicious. Staff very polite and on the ball.
