W spent one night over the bank holiday weekend. We had 3 rooms, all in the outer block. All of the rooms were spacious and comfortable although the decor was slightly a dated and some of the furniture was battered. We did appreciate the comfortable armchairs in the rooms. Toiletries were provided, but different rooms had different supplies.
The location was pleasant, the weather was lovely so being able to sit outside with a drink was a bonus - a few more outside tables would be nice.
We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant, choosing from the bar menu, which was excellent. The burgers were delicious, tastefully presented. The scampi was juicy and the mushroom stroganoff had plenty of mushrooms. The desserts were tasty but probably bigger portions that necessary - 2 people could easily have shared the chocolate brownie.
Unfortunately some guests arrived very late and were in rooms above our party. They arrives with a small child to get to sleep and took a long time to settle in, and the sound carried downstairs. We even phoned reception to find out what was happening.
Breakfast the next morning was very good. The printed menu was limited, but the kitchen was happy to mix and match items for us, which meant there was a lot of flexibility. The bacon was delicious.
We did get a bargain rate, so were happy with the value for money. I might have been more concerned if I had paid the advertised price.

Attention to detail was lacking. Broken blind slat in bathroom window was dangling and no one had made any attempt to fix it. Dead insects had blown in from open window onto the bed. One window looked out onto the roof where there was lots of rubbish that had been left there. Spacious family room but very noisy from the wedding reception going on downstairs below the room. Breakfast was tasty and a good choice of hot things on the menu.

Stayed as part of a large group. Hotel does, as others have said need a refurb but it's not that bad, no sign of any cracked tiles or health hazards that I could see. We had room 11 which is one of the four posters and it was spacious and clean but very cold. The heating was not on for long enough to keep it warm in the evenings. I should have asked them to turn it on I know, but you'd hope a hotel could get the heating of the rooms right.

The food was very good, catering for big groups must be a challenge but we all had well cooked tasty food without soggy vegetables so well done.

The bar is reasonably priced with some nice wine but despite their being two staff chatting away in the kitchen just after 11 they refused to serve any more drinks saying the bar was closed. Fair enough for non-residents but to close the residents bar at 11 on a Saturday night just gave a poor impression and would put me off giving them any further business. Which is a shame.

We were two sets of couples staying at this hotel due to a friend getting married nearby. We did get a deal on our stay at this hotel and having checked out the photos on the internet thought we had a right bargain..... However, if we had of paid the full price we would have been very annoyed.

Our booking confirmation stated we had two four poster bedrooms with scenic views only to be given on arrival two rooms which were on an extension to the front of the hotel and extremely tiered looking with no four poster or scenic view and very basic. After going back to reception (who was very polite and helpful) we then got upgraded to one four poster bedroom and one with a decent view with the explanation that they had not received the full details from the booking agent.
The upgraded rooms were also very tired looking and with many small faults i.e. the window not shutting, an exposed main light fitting, constant dripping shower. The second room the door didn’t look like it fitted properly there was a lovely bathroom but the shower was on a hose from the bath which was a pain to shower as there wasn’t anything to attached the hose to therefore you had to hold it. The decor looked like it generally needed an uplift throughout and the hotel with a lick of paint and brightening up and the conservatory windows looked like they could do with replacing.
On a plus side it is a shame as this hotel looks lovely from the outside and the staff were all very helpful and polite and the full breakfast in the morning was also lovely.

I have give a poor rating due to the hotel in need of some TLC and NOT due to the staff.

As part of planning the Lancashire Automobile Club's annual Coast to Coast Classic Car Run from the Midland Hotel in Morecambe to East Ayton Lodge via the Fat Lamb we decided to stay the night at the finish venue.
After a long day travelling through North Yorkshire and Heartbeat Country, including traversing some snow bound roads, the East Ayton Lodge was a welcome sight.
There has been some redecoration and changes to mangement since out last visit but the atmosphere remained warm and welcoming. The overall impression of the hotel is much improved and the food remains at a high standard.
We have booked the hotel as the finish of the Coast to Caost once again and we are sure our entrants will enjoy the facilities after a li#ong days drive through some truly classic countryside.
