“Believe the reviews!”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

You really can believe all the positive reviews (and there are no negative comments). The Waterside room was everything we had hoped for, restful, comfortable, with double aspect overlooking lovely gardens and with views. Both bedroom and en suite (with bath & separate shower cubicle) were large rooms and the guests lounge was lovely. Breakfasts were well researched and very much enjoyed, the perfect poached eggs get a special mention! Kathy & Dean were friendly and perfect hosts.Knowledge of the area and suggestions for visits helped make five days stay a real home from home.

Penny and I stayed here recently for two nights. I am almost reluctant to praise the B&B because it is probably best kept secret. I am struggling to think of anywhere better. Food, service, hospitality and cleanliness all straight A's. Kathy and Dean are great hosts. Like new friends. The location is special too. On the edge of the North York Moors. Superb for touring and Scarborough just a short drive away. If you want to treat yourself. Look no further! Simpy beautiful

I stayed at Scalby Hayes for one night and was not disappointed! Kathy was a fantastic host and couldnt have done more to make me feel comfortable!!

I stayed in the Waterside room which is very spacious and had a very lovely feel to it! The ensuite is a generous size and has a lovely deep bath and a seperate show cubicle too. Waterside has a fantastic view of Scarborough castle and was exceptionally stunning on a dusky autumn morning! Although I didn't have a scoot round the gardens from what I saw they looked lovely and Im sure if you were to stay in Summer time they would be a good place to chill out in.

The breakfast was nice - choice of cereals etc as well as a choice of cooked breakfasts.

This B&B is kind of off the beaten track but that is what makes it all the more special!! I would highly recommend this B&B as its 'away from it all' and you could easily relax if you needed an escape.

Room Tip: Waterside room has a stunning spacious bathroom and an amazing view of Scarborough's coastline a...

Scalby Hayes is seriously good. Kathy and Dean are really excellent hosts and have clearly worked out how to ensure that guests have an enjoyable stay.
There is wonderful quiet in a beautiful area, and everything is so clean and tidy. Both the rooms are comfortable, but the Waterside is larger.

The breakfast is very good, and if you had everything you would not need to have anything for the rest of the day.

We have just returned from a 4 night break at Scalby Hayes B&B one of the best, if not the best, B&B in the whole of the UK. We just cannot recommend it highly enough. The cleanliness, peace and comfort, attention to detail and customer focus that Kathy and Dean provide really is second to none.

The B&B has two rooms. We had a beautiful huge room (Waterside) and it had everything you could possibly want including super-king bed, TV, tea and coffee making facilities and double aspect windows. One window looked out over the immaculate lawn and garden with its packed, colourful flower borders, pond and wonderful trees and the other window had a magnificent view of the sea and Scarborough Castle…amazing. We also had a huge en-suite luxury bathroom with a separate shower and a long, deep bath that you could really stretch out in. The bathroom also has a huge window flooding it with light. The other room (Fieldside) is also lovely with a king size bed and beautiful shower room. There is also a welcoming and very comfortable guest sitting room with lots of reading material and TV and gorgeous fireplace for the chillier nights.

Breakfast was the best ever - made fresh to order every morning and included locally produced, top quality sausages, bacon, eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes. The sausages were so good we even bought some from the butcher to take home! There was also Dorset cereals, fresh orange juice, fresh fruit etc to help yourself to set out on the dresser and the jam and marmalade was also delicious.

4 nights was just not long enough in this great area. Scalby itself was a sheer joy, a lovely village with hanging flower baskets, village store and pub and on a great bus route should you want to leave the car behind.

We also enjoyed wildlife watching in and around the B&B. We were lucky enough to see the barn owl on its evening hunting trips, swallows, great spotted woodpecker, bats, toad and many birds attracted to the garden feeders.

We had some great days out to Scarborough (and the Castle), Filey, Bridlington, Bempton RSPB, Whitby, Robin Hood Bay to mention a few but the best part was knowing that we were returning to our wonderful B&B accommodation at the end of every day. If you come here for just one or two nights then you will kick yourself for not planning a longer stay as there is so much to see and do.

Thank you so very much Kathy and Dean for making every minute so enjoyable and for the delicious scones and home baking, flask with fresh milk for our tea and coffee in our room and all the other many thoughtful touches. We hope to return before too long.

We stayed in this excellent b nd b in May of this year. Seeking solace after a stressful time we were not disappointed. Arriving on a rainy afternoon we were captivated by the idyllic setting of this B and B in the hills around Scalby. Set in a bowl giving an air of tranquility and peace, the house stands perfectly at one with its surroundings. The attention to detail begins with the beautiful gardens and extends throughout the house. Our welcome from Kathy was warm and sincere, and we immediately felt "at home". Our accommodation in "Lakeside" was delightful - spacious, immaculate and comfortable.Kathy's soft furnishings were perfect for the cottage feel of the room. The bathroom was large with co - ordinated decor and all needs catered for.
The sitting room and breakfast room for guests were furnished to the highest standard and breakfast was excellent. We both felt comfortable staying here, Kathy was the perfect host, nothing too much trouble, attentive to every need, whilst giving guests space also to enjoy the peace.
We cannot wait to return, and intend to do so at the earliest opportunity.

Room Tip: Lakeside was excellent.
