“Fabulous as always”
Reviewed June 22, 2011

We’ve just arrived back from 3 nights at Scalby Hayes and the B&B just gets better. This is our third visit and we’ve already booked our fourth visit in August.

We always stay in the Waterside room where the bedroom and bathroom are so spacious and perfectly furnished together with beautiful views of the gardens and over the fields towards Scarborough Castle. The gardens are perfectly looked after by Kathy who is a Gold Award winner for Best Kept Garden and we love to return early afternoon where we sit by the summerhouse with a glass of wine and chill out with the quietness and peacefulness of the gardens.

The breakfast is certainly filling together with lovely homemade bread, I have the Yorkshire breakfast whereas my wife loves the scrambled egg with fresh salmon. Dean keeps asking for us to try the kedgeree so he can have some himself, maybe on our visit in August we'll try some.

The location of the B&B is perfect less than 10 minutes to the centre of Scarborough and close to Whitby, Bempton Cliffs and the Yorkshire Dales. We can’t say anything more than we did on our last review, you need to stay here to appreciate all the good values and hospitality that Kathy and Dean provide, once you have stayed here you will certainly return.

This is certainly the No. 1 B&B not just in Scarborough but the whole of the Yorkshire area. We can literally say this is probably the best place we've ever stayed only marginally bettered by a tiny island in the Maldives.

Scalby Hayes is a beautiful farmhouse in an eaqually beautiful and tranquil location. The breakfast room is the ideal place to watch the birds feeding - including woodpeckers!

Both bedrooms are lovely but the Waterside is our favourite with lovely views across the fields to the castle and sea in the distance.

Kathy and Dean are excellent hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. This has been our third visit this year and we can't wait to go back again! We arrived at Scalby Hayes strangers and feel we left as friends.

Room Tip: Waterside is the bigger room with stunning views

Attention to detail at this B & B is second to none. The location is peaceful yet close enough for Scarborough and Whitby. The Waterside room was wonderful. Large and spacious with fantastic views of Scarborough Castle. We were truly spoilt with tea and cakes on arrival and a fantastic breakfast. We were cycling in the area and Mrs Tully took care of our bikes. She was very helpful with recommending places to eat and with directions of the area. If you like 5 star hotels in B & B's this is the place to stay. We will be returning as soon as we can.

Room Tip: Only two rooms both of which are fantastic.

Great hosts who made us feel very welcome.

A peaceful property at the end of a long track with great views from the bedroom towards Scarborough Castle. A good location for covering the coast or the moors.

The room was very spacious and furnished to a high standard and spotlessly clean. The breakfasts, served in the airy conservatory overlooking the garden were plentiful and cooked to order. The sitting room was available for our use and was very cosy.

The only downside was leaving our shoes at the door to avoid the pale carpets getting dirty - we didn't take any slippers with us but this wasn't a major issue. There aren't any pubs or restaurants within walking distance but there are some within a 5 minute drive.

Just visited for the 3rd time - we love it. Very pretty country surroundings, beautiful tranquil gardens with summerhouse and seating, perfect for relaxing with a bottle of wine. Very attractive and tasteful decor everywhere, light and airy. Lovely sitting room reserved for guests, home from home.

We have stayed in both bedroooms. Waterside is astonishingly spacious with pretty views double aspect, like a luxury hotel - a real treat. Fieldside is smaller but very nicely furnished and comfortable. Both bathrooms very nice indeed.

Kathy and Dean are very welcoming and clearly love where they live which is nice. Breakfast scrumptious, especially with eggs laid from their own hens!

Perfect location, near to coastal attractions Scarborough, Whitby, Filey, Scalby village pub/bistro etc, but in a very peaceful location.

Room Tip: The Waterside room is especially nice

We spent a Springtime break here from 18th to 22nd.April.........
This delightful property is the most comfortable and beautifully located B&B we have ever had the good fortune to visit!
The standard of accomodation is impeccable ! We stayed in the "Waterside" room which is aptly named...lovely views of the gardens and the large natural pond area...and as a bonus...a panorama of Scarborough Castle in the distance and the benefit of seeing the sunrise over the bay !
The comfort and cleanliness of the rooms is of the highest standard ...the bathroom is huge and has both a bath and a seperate shower cubicle and lovely decor all round!
The breakfasts are of the same high standard and cooked beautifully and served by the most pleasant hosts you could hope to meet .
A "hidden gem" ...well worth discovering for yourselves ..This is B&B as it should be....Immaculate !
Not going "overboard" with the praise here...I believe in credit where it is due......and No.1 Scalby Hayes thoroughly deserves that credit ...Brilliant holiday !!
