“Sandy and sun drenched”
Reviewed February 17, 2014

This is a good beach, which has places (ie.shacks) to eat in, if you don't want to spend a fortune at the hotel!

“Quite not so popular beach”

If you do not want crowd around you on a wide beautiful and clean beach - head for Utorda. There are some shacks and a famous restaurant called Zeebop.

“Clean and (relatively) quiet”

First time visit to Uttorda Beach. Nice stretch of clean sand with warm waters. Has lifeguards on duty and a selection of water sports. Crowded but not jam packed!

This beach was right 5 minutes walk from the Royal Orchid hotel. though the beach visit time was so short for me but the morning sun rise was a perfect treat to eyes on the beach

“Away from it all”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

We were staying at the Kenilworth Hotel (see separate review) and had lunch in all of the beach shacks here during our stay.
They are all fairly similar with almost identical menus and very little difference in price - you'll get lunch for 2 including drinks for well under a tenner. The food was excellent in all of the shacks - all freshly prepared with the most amazing fresh seafood which you can choose and be eating an hour later - takes some time to arrive as it's all freshly cooked - well worth the wait! There are a few sun loungers at each shack which are free to use if you're buying drinks / lunch throughout the day.
Our hotel did not allow guests to take the hotel towels onto the beach ( stopped by security guard) but the shack beds provide clean towels for your use.
We stopped using Lloyd's Shack which sits on its own to the right of the hotel as the owner made it clear that she was unhappy that we had arranged a boat trip via another source - all of their signs advertising their services are in Russian so we were unaware they offered any trips.
If you want to save a lot of money and see some of the area, you'll find Reme, a taxi driver, who waits on the beach beside the Kenilworth to offer his services. His cars are clean, in good condition and his drivers speak excellent English and really look after you - he's a registered co. and has all of the necessary insurances etc so don't be put off by people saying you must use the hotel taxis. We had a driver for a day to take us to the very south of South Goa (Palolem) and a number of other beaches throughout the day which cost us £30 for the day - well worth the cost.
He also arranged for us to have a day on Grande Island in a motor boat with two crew. This cost us £70 including loads of drinks and food. The boat trip took about 1.5 hours each way and although a nice experience, the island is definitely suited to those snorkeling / diving / fishing as there is only one tiny sandy beach which us covered in litter - we had a lovely time though and the bait guys cleared a space on the beach for us to sit - watch out for the birds who swoop down looking for food when you're in swimming!
This beach has a lifeguard and the waves are great fun, beautiful clean sand and really quiet so easy to find a spot on your own.
