“Sunday's Buffet was Excellent”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2011

We have stayed at the casino many times throughout the year and the weekday buffets were not that great except for the desserts. Room accommodations were very good. The games were costly and not that much fun even though the sellections were plentiful. This is not a bad place to visit , but not too frequently.

We stayed 3 times at South Beach for 2 days each time. We had very enjoyable experiences each time. The hotel is very nice. The rooms are nicely laid out and decorated with all the amenities we like, ie coffee makers, fridges, nice tvs, and, a nice touch, good qualtiy clock/stereos with IPOD docking stations. The maids always keep the rooms immaculate and respond to all our needs. The pool is huge and very nice as well. The one thing we miss though is there is no hot tub by the pool.

We've always also enoyed the food at South Beach. The buffet is generally good to very good with lots of choices. We also eat a lot at the lounge and all the meals we've had were good and reasonably priced. We love the lounge and when they've had entertainment/bands they are also generally good as well.

The casino is nice as well as the poker room. We like it much more than the casinos in Winnipeg where we are from. We travel regularily to Vegas and too be honest we feel outside of Vegas, South Beach offers the best overall casino/resort we've been too, and we have been to pretty well all of them. There is certainly nothing anywhere near as nice overall within a days drive.

The last thing I'd like to mention is the staff. The staff at South Beach is great. All of the staff we have ever encountered there have been friendly and helpfull to us and generally go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The staff in many cases is what sets South Beach apart and ahead of other casino/resorts.

In summary South Beach is a great place and very good value for what you pay. We have recommended it to many friends and family and would recommend it to anyone. And yes we more definately will stay there again.

We love to stay at SouthBeach, and are going again next weekend. Our last stay was fun, except there was a couple of things to our disliking.
The food in the restaurant was not that good, and found we were eating and paying high price for left overs which were not edible. Some games were not hooked up, but the biggest turn off was the coffee pot in the room.
I set it up for morning, but when I turned it on it wouldn't work, no problem, I would set it up again, making sure I did it right. Well, I sure am glad I did not get to drink that pot of coffee, I would have gotten terribly ill. The water in the back was all full of slim and chunks of yucky stuff. I realize it is not city water, but this is no excuse, all pots in each room should be cleaned out regularly. This is a health issue.
I'm sure this is an oversite, so we are giving them the bebefit of doubt and trying it again.
As I said, we love going there to relax and have fun.

Check in was quick, the room was very clean and lots of room. Was suprised by the flat screen TV, we have stayed in the hotel at regent and were disappointed at the tv. Even heard rumors of all HD movies and tv coming there soon. I like the fact that if I lose a little money in the casino I can go watch a movie and know that those 2 hours only cost me a little bit! lol. The nachos are great while watching a movie just to let you know.
The casino was also very good, had lots of halloween draws. Which we didnt get to win, but my wife won some good bonuses and we left happy.
Overall was a great stay, for sure we will be back again!

We booked a mini getaway for 1 night away from the city. The check in process was good, fast and efficient and the front desk agent was friendly enough. Room was nice and clean (probably the nicest part of the getaway but we didn't book here for the rooms), very spacious and nice views of the area from the top floors. TV channels are limited though so just a heads up on that. Vending machines on the room floors have old snacks in them. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable. There was a lot of stray dogs roaming around the property and some growled at us while we got our bags from the car. The casino was nice and clean, lots of slot machines, very few tables for poker and black jack though so keep that in mind. There was complimentary/unlimited coffee, and pepsi products when you were in the casino, which was nice. That's about where the nice time ends. We were getting hungry and went to Mango's Restaurant. The lady who was the hostess, we think, told us rudely, to sit wherever. The floors were extremely dirty and full of old food and the tables were sticky. As soon as we sat down, our waiter came up to us and said very rudely "what do you want?" Having never been to South Beach before, we asked for a menu first, to see what there was to eat. The waiter rolled his eyes at us and went to find us a menu. He came back and threw the menus on the table. The entrees were priced at $16 (very few to choose from) and the prime rib buffet was $18.95 so for the extra $2.95, we decided to eat the "Prime Rib" buffet. The food was horrible. I wouldn't feed it to a bad dog or pigs. The "chef" serving the "prime rib" (if you could call it that) was very rude and odviously had a long day and did not want to be there. There was so much fat on the meat, it could not be chewed/eaten. The salads were all in a cream dressing which didn't look good to eat, except for the green leaf lettuce, and there were 2 dressings to choose from, ranch or italian...that's it. The soup looked as though it was mainly broth, with very few ingredients in it. Every time we asked for more pop refills, the waiter just stared at us for about 15 seconds, then took our drinks and took his time in getting the refills back to us. The ladies clearing the tables were very rude. We asked for more ketchup as our bottle was empty, and they said get it yourself. Nice. We were then given our bill, and we paid at the counter with our debit card. We left the restaurant and were standing in the casino deciding what to do next. We were chased by our waiter claiming we didn't pay as he said we told him we were paying cash at the table. Umm..we never said that. When we got our bill, we paid by debit and got out of there as fast as we could. After showing him the paid bill, he just walked away from us. No apologies for the mistake, no nothing. Please bring your own food in a cooler when/if you go, you will be glad you did. The pool area was full of unsupervised, bad children running around screaming. No hot tub either. We thought we would swim after, and forgot the pool closed at 10 (yes, that was our mistake). We went down to the pool area just after 10, hoping to relax for a bit, but were yelled at by the front desk clerk. He yelled at us "the pool is CLOSED...it's CLOSED...can't you read?". Nice. Now everyone in the lobby was staring at us, laughing. There was another couple there wanting to do the same thing, but we were all denied. So keep in mind the pool closes at 10 sharply, and there is no adult only time or anyone allowed there after 10pm sharp. We have stayed at other hotels who don't mind if responsible adults swim for a bit, even after the pool closes, but not here. So keep that in mind. The entire time we felt as though we didn't belong and that people were irritated with us, it was very uncomfortable. The lack of customer service was horrific and they should be ashamed of themselves. The horrible food and bad service at the restaurant was inexcusible. That being said, we would never go back, or recommend this experience to anyone.

The food is disgusting with prices to match. No one seems to be in charge. Almost every time we went to the buffet over the last year the chef stands there and tells us they have run out of the meat entree but you still pay full price for dirty looking lettuce with no tomatoes or cucumbers ever, brown fruit with the flies to go with it, some old chicken that is all bones and should have been boiled for soup, and very little of anything else that isn't covered in almost black, thick, salty gravy. The bar food is just as bad if not worse. How much would it take to slice some fresh vegetables, or give up altogether and sell frozen pizzas. Better yet, put a microwave and a fridge in the room and everyone will bring a cooler.
