If you are in the area visit this museum, but not on Monday bc its closed. First make sure to watch
introductory film and then take a tour. Its a walk through history from its beginning. It can be very interesting for children also-there is simulation of walking on ice and then you hear and see cracking:), on human exhibit you can touch his body parts and then it shows which illnesses they suffer and other fun stuff.

This museum is an exhibition of century old excavations and research about Neanderthal man that lived in the area.
On the basis of excavated material, the whole story of that group of people that lived there was created.
When you first enter the museum, make sure you watch the movie on the big screen that they show. The movie is the real recreation of group of people that lived there based on the archaeological finds.
After that it is a good basic (for kids, but still ok) educational display about the excavations, world itself and the evolution of human race.
The actual artifacts that were excavated there is not that many, but that doesn't really matter as the story of those is told in a pretty good way.

If you are in Zagreb, this is a not to miss site if (1)you are not offended by nudity and (2)you are not an advocate of creationism. We rented a mini-van (800 Kunas) and made the round trip taking the scenic route about 90 minutes each way. Admission was 50 kunas. The visit includes an introductory film, and entrance to a well-laid out, interactive series of environments tracing the history of the discovery of this Neanderthal site, the geological evolution of planet earth, the evolution of human species, and the like. One to one reconstructions of our human ancestors are arranged in a way that one can walk among them comparing heights and brain capacities. One can touch a fantastic sci-fi like corpse on a slab near the end exhibition in order to gain more information about the Neanderthals found there as revealed by a study of their bones. An audio guide is available at an additional charge but the labels (Croatian, German, English) are filled with informative and enlightened information.

Modern museum which takes you on a tour of evolution of the human species and shows where the Neanderthal remains were found. Interactive and passive exhibits and is geared for those of all ages. An Imax movie starts you on your tour and then it is self guided. There are restaurants and cafes on the grounds for refreshments afterwards. Very good place to visit!
