We have just arrived back from Bandos Island Resort. The resort was excellent with wonderful snorkling. Accommodation (Beach Villa) very spacious the only thing that let it down is that you sleep under the air condition vent which drips very cold water on you during the night you learn that the best thing is move down the bed so that the drips do not wake you!

The Gallery (restaurant) is very expensive but the Sundowners, though limited with its menu, is far better priced and you have the advantage of the beautiful sunsets.

The staff were all very helpful and friendly and the pool is very good although the music was somewhat loud! We were advised that there are many mosquitos - I think I saw two;in the liturature in our villa, it states that they spray around the island around 5 am each morning to keep the insect population down, this certainly worked, the only thing that bit us were the enormous ants which we discovered near tbe pool. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would highly recommend this resort.

Room Tip: I only scored sleep quality as Average due to the drips from the Air Con which woke us. These Villa...

May 2012.
Just returned from a week stay B&B at Bandos Island Resort.
The Airport transfer is very quick at 10minutes but no aircraft noise at the Resort, other than the odd sea-plane.
The rooms (Deluxe) are very good and better than I expected to be honest, the bathroom is very spacious and the walk in shower etc was excellent.
OK, so here is something you need to understand.
If you stay All-inclusive your meals are served in the 'Galley Restraunt', this is located with no view of the sea but next to main reception. Their 'international' cuisine is pre-cooked & served out of a selection of hot boxes, mainly rice and chicken dishes with one meals left overs being sneakily re-packaged into the next meals salads etc.
If you are AI, you can '...take advantage of the Resorts other al a carte dining venues with a 15% discount off their prices'
HOWEVER, the cost of eating at the Galley Canteen is $50 per person for food only whereas if you eat at the Seabreeze Restraunt, with a view of the setting sun, cocktails to your table and freshly made hot food, it's about $24!!!
Nowhere does it detail the horrendous prices for the main canteen until after you've eaten.
As a family of two adults and one child it was considerably cheaper to stay B&B than the $250 per day surcharge to upgrade to AI.
To summarise, if you're not a big drinker, stay B&B and save a fortune and eat better food in much nicer surroundings.
Would I go again, definitely....

This was our 12th visit to Bandos. We flew Emirates from Gatwick, flights were great on arrival at Male, the visa cards had to be completed in the airport as none were available on the plane, which was a tad fraught, but afterwards everything was efficient as always. Not long and we were back at Bandos. Check in was interesting, Bandos have some new staff, who clearly are in need of training, but following a quick chat with the FOM, everything was sorted and we were taken to our room.
The island was full the first week of our stay, but it was still easy to get a table at Sundowners for lunch or during happy hour to watch the sunset. A few changes have been made to the island, all the room keys are now swipe cards, and the beach has been extended beside Sundowners, by cutting back some of the vegetation. Bandos could do with cutting back some more along the shore line to deepen the beaches. Since our last visit in December 2011, the menus have been changed, it was disappointing to find that the choice of salads at Sundowners was limited, and the fabulous calamari pasta salad no longer on the menu. Prices have risen as well - both the food and the drinks, before the addition of 10% service charge and 6% GTST.
Despite the island being full, the pool was quiet and there was plenty of space on the beach. It was difficult to know where so many people were spending the day as the island never felt full. The dive centre was quiet, but service here was excellent as always, the main reason why we return to Bandos. The dive centre is still one of the few resorts that offer a two tank dive trip in the morning and the cost of the diving is reasonable and on a par with europe or egypt.
Checking out at the end of our stay, was as fraught as the check in - again due to new staff of the desk. It took over an hour to resolve 5 errors with our bill, with the duty manager having to come to the desk to authorise the changes, when the bill was agreed, we were then informed that our USD traveller cheques were not accepted! We have always used these traveller cheques and just as we were about to have a major heart attack, a colleague on the desk corrected what we had been told and confirmed that they were indeed accepted.
Would we go back? Yes we would, but mainly due to Dive Bandos and to see some of the fantastic staff that have become friends over the years. Hopefully by the time we return later on in the year, the new staff will have been fully trained, and the issues we experienced ironed out.

Stayed here for a coupe of days and wish I had stayed longer. It's a great introduction to the Maldives, as it is a very close water ferry ride from the airpot island, whereas other islands require an expensive flight and much more time to reach. The staff were all very friendly, and my room was perfectly comfortable and clean.

The whole island is the resort (and vice versa), so you have somewhat limited options for food, which on a shorter trip is no issue at all, but might get to you after a week or more. I particularly recommend the Sundowners bar in the evening, where can sit on the deck, enjoy a fruity drink (with or without alcohol) and watch the sun sink into the ocean. Tranquil and lovely.

Fantastic snorkeling, and they have helpfully set up guide ropes/buoys in parts of the swimming area so that you can follow them out to the deeper waters and bigger schools of fish.

A touch expensive, but as with all islands, everything has to be brought in from the outside, so not unexpected. I recommend taking advantage of the complimentary 10-minute neck and shoulder massage (I got a coupon for this when I checked in).

Would go back again.

Never Bandos again in Maldıves. They don't know how to greet a guest. All they care about is the money. The moment you arrive they wait you with calculator to add whatever they can to the bill. Food is not good and not clean. Swimming area is limited because of reefs and rocks. Don't pay up front because they won't refund in any case even if you don't like the place they tell you to leave if you don't like the resort and they don't try to make it a better place for your vacation. Try Paradise Island resort if you go to Maldives.

Room Tip: Go to Paradise Island Resort.

We were there in April. Absolute paradise. The people were lovely, the facilities better than I expected and the snorkelling was brilliant and you just had to walk off the beach to get to the reef. Will definitely be going again.

Our first trip to the Maldives. We originally booked a deluxe room, however, whilst the room was extremely spacious and absolutley spotless, the walls were thin and, as the family next door had a baby, we upgraded to a Beach Villa - more than worth the money!

The villa was right next to the beach and in a great location for Sundowner's Bar! Housekeeping and turn down service was provided each day, fresh towels etc and our own private hot tub. Beach and sea were beyond gorgeous, staff were extremely polite and helpful and the food was delicious.

If I had any siggestions for the resort it would be top provide a little more air con/more fans in the gallery restaurant so for those people wanting to dress up - don't bother it is a really casual and relaxed atmosphere.

We had a fabulous stay and enjoyed every minute - particularly the treatments at the Anggerik Spa!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Not wishing to rest on the laurels of our existing achievements, Bandos Maldives had in the past year undertaken a major refurbishment project with the intention of transforming ourselves into a hotel that is truly reflective of the times. Careful consideration however, was given at all times to ensure that the old-world refinement for which the island has a reputation remained uncompromised. Under the project, major facelifts have been given to the front desk, lobby areas, shops, restaurants and bars and have furthermore commissioned a new swimming pool and additional accommodation facilities all of which perfectly blend with the island's tropical splendour and give visitors a taste of the Maldivian aesthetic. ... more   less
