“Lovely place for a picnic”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

Peaceful surrounding, crystal clear water ! Loved it ! Go early in the morning. Bring your picnic along as it is quite a distance from the bus terminal. Bring enough water on a hot day. It gets crowded in the afternoon.

“Bucket list”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

This should be put in the must-see, must-visit place in the world! It was beautiful! The weather made a big difference. It was sunny with around 18°C which was perfect, kept us warm but not hot! We wish we had booked a night's stay there as there were other easy walking trails we could do. Taisho-ike (Taisho lake) is indeed an easy walk with wooden boarded walk and very flat. I had my 60+ years old mother with me and she enjoyed it thoroughly. We spent about 1.5 hours strolling slowly to take in the scene and making lots of photos!

Oh, if the weather is going to be good, pack some picnic to take with you, you can enjoy the view even more! I will try to go back again.

We also met a touring-skier and a group of snowboarders! This is May!

“Extraordinarily beautiful and relaxing”
Reviewed June 13, 2012 via mobile

My wife and two kids spent a night at Kamikochi in early summer and wish we we had spent more time there. The Taisho Pond walk is a staple of the Kamikochi day tripper. It is an easy 6km walk over well maintained paths and really varied and beautiful terrain. My family made most of a day of it, with many stops to climb fallen logs, race sticks under bridges, watch fish and skim stones on the river.
At the pond (half way) there is a little hut selling Soba, beer cooled in the river and cooked versions of the little fishes that had so fascinated the kids on the way there.
This is no rugged mountain trail, more like an extended walk through a massive Japanese garden. But the landscape is real enough and perhaps some of the most beautiful I've ever seen.

“Special place in Japan”
Reviewed August 30, 2011

If you are with your own car you have to stop in Sawado, 20 min from the Kamikochi area, and transfer with bus, 2000 yen roundtrip, or taxi to bus terminal in Kamikochi. You may disembark at Taishoke at Taisho- ike Pond to walk for 30 minutes on the Nature tracking trail or leave the bus at the terminal and walk from Kappabashi and visitors centre for at least 30- 40 minutes on a forest trail without spectacular views to Myoniki Pond and Hotaka shrine and the very friendly in honor of the mountaineer Walter Weston build restaurant.
90% of the visitors are left in the vicinity of the bus terminal and the view from the Kappabashi
