If you happen to travel through Norrtälje in the month of July and have the slightest interest in the Vikings and their time period, paying a visit to Storholmen is well worth both the entrance fee and the time. Especially if you have kids in the age of say 4 to 10. Having passed by Norrtälje during more than 15 years during the summer, the family finally decided, to stop here for a couple of hours. The hours turned into the full day, given that there were so many activities: plays, stories from ancient Viking tales, writing with the old Viking alphabet, baking, making of glass pearls, music, etc, etc.
Storholmen is not run by the community or a museum, but from idealists who enjoy part of their vacation living and eating as Vikings during the summer. Essentially it is a large summer camp, allowing visitors for 6 hours a day.
Entrance fee may seem steep, but for sure worth it and for a good cause.
