“Delightful day out”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Spent a very pleasant few hours on the boat tour around the lagoon, walking on the beach and having lunch at the pier restaurant. All organised by Tsarley Korpey Beach Resort, a terrific experience, well worth the 2 hour’s drive from Accra. Make sure you leave Accra early otherwise you will get bogged down in traffic!

Ensure young children are properly fitted with life jackets before you leave shore as it can get choppy! Not too many places you can swim/paddle in fresh water then walk 100m across a sandy beach and swim/paddle in salt water.

WARNING: Schistosomiasis - caused by parasitic trematode flatworm Schistosoma; fresh water snails – For peace of mind DON’T paddle in the fresh water lagoon, the chances are very small, but maybe not worth taking the risk!

A number of Jet Ski hire places are dotted around the beaches at reasonable rates, but quite
how you get hold of someone to hire them seemed a challenge.

The spits of sand at the mouth of the estuary are breeding grounds for the highly protected Leatherback, Olive Ridley and Green turtles. Thankfully, the local community takes it very seriously. Night tours to see nesting turtles are available but unsure where to get on one, I have heard that they are a bit hit and miss as to whether you will see anything.

Whilst we did not stay in the resort, we had lunch. Have visited this place a number of times and whilst the service may not be great, the view more than makes up for it - it is situated on a stretch of the river where a number of expats and international companies have their own chalets and also a sailing club. The view is wonderful and watching the river traffic very interesting.
I dont agree with previous review about food - considering the size of the place it has a varied menu and when we were there we had a chef salad, pepperoni pizza and vegetable omeletee and salad - including 5 beers the bill came to sterling pounds 15 -

This hotel is situated right on the volta river and very close to Estuary. This place is only 80KM from Accra and a very beautiful hideout from the hush and bush of modern life. Food here is extremely good. hotel has a pool which becomes very hot during day time. It is advisable to swim in the river which is very calm near hotel. Also a 1 hour trip to Estuary will be very good. on this boat trip they show the houses of the whos who of Accra. Please carry a mosquito repellent with you. rooms are basic and costly when compared to the hotel standard. Still they are neat and tidy. take room facing river so that you will not be bored.

Room Tip: room facing river should be chosen. also ensure that there are no charges levied when you stay at ho...

This place gave me the feel of Miami Beach and Montego Bay, Jamaica. Very Nice food prepare for you. You dine overlooking the Volta Lake.

Room Tip: I ate at the Restuarant, did not stay the night.

Wonderfull location above the Volta river in Ada for a drink (if you can get one) but definitively a bad place to sleep : noisy from 7 in the morning to 9 in the evening, at 7 they start the radio to do the cleaning so loud you can't sleep anymore and by 9PM they ask you to leave the bar because they close the place and remove all the furnitures.
Internet does not work, the restaurant offers only the usual Jollof, fried or plain rice with a piece of fish or chicken but no more.
No beverage available except cans of Coke or Smirnof premix, service is teribly slow, and breakfast is difficult to get.
Staff, except making noise spend the time sleeping in the armchairs, you disturb them when you request anything.
Payment is also difficult, they charge 10 € more if you decide to pay in € instead of paying in $ or cedis.
Cost of 1 room 110 $/ night
