“Modest hotel with the best restaurant in Lahema National Park”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

We have been twice in the restaurant and have been surprised by the quality, freshness and the price. In my opinion the best food in a restaurant in the next 50 km for only 10 € a main dish. They also change nearly daily their menu and keep it short and good.

The hotel itself really basic but clean and cheap. We paid 50 € for a double room and had an outstanding breakfast included in the price. If you don`t expect a TV in the room and prefer the direct view at the Baltic Sea from your balcony, you are in the right place! They rent also out their really nice Sauna and we can only recommend it,

The staff has been extremly friendly and supporting,

We finally got there at 2 p.m. after kilometers in the forest, seems to be the only place for eating in the whole area (it is a natural park: Lahemaa rahvuspar). The place is lovely, near the sea (we ate in the outside), and there is also a museum (which we did not visit).
The menu was written in Estonian only, but the waitress was so kind to translate it in English (she told me that they do no print the English version because it changes every day).
We had one cold soup made of beetroot (with garlic) whit a funny pink color (the taste was very similar to spanish gazpacho, and I appreciated it very much), then two main courses of fried fish, which were agreeable, plus beer and mineral water (and one dessert) for about 30 euros, which is much cheaper than Tallinn. Main courses were all about 10 euros each.
So, I can't say that it's a gourmet's place, but it has an excellent quality/price ratio

The restaurant at this remote place is really something special, very tasty soops and desserts, friendly service and nice interior design.
Much better food compared to overrated restaurants such as Vihula Manor.

The hotel rooms are pretty basic, not worth 65 Euros and could do with thicker curtains, it was difficult to sleep because of the 'white nights'. The hotel is supposed to have wi-fi but unfortunately there was no connection in my room on the 2nd floor. However, the people working there were extremely friendly and helpful, the food was also good.

The accommodation and rooms are very simple - just a bed and a table, no extra luxuries. However nice and clean. I had a room with big windows and a small balcony and an incredible view to the open sea. The view was the most memorable thing about that hotel! everything else was average or a bit below.
The conference room was so-so, suitable only for smaller and not so demanding groups. We brought our own technological equipment for making presentations. ..not so good internet connection as well.
One big extra is the Viinistu art museum that is in the next house in some kind of an old fish processing/factory house. Very interesting addition to the destination. Besides the interesting art museum and going to a nearby small island there is not much else to do there. Local pub is not open all the time, but they open it if requested.

The Viinistu Hotell is part of the harbour/museum complex in the middle of the lovely town of Viinistu. Other than the (interesting) museum and the beautiful sights, there is no touristic infrastructure, all pubs other than the hotel's were closed. There is a town shop and a small takeaway for freshly smoked fish next to the hotel entrance. We paid 67 € for a double room (incl breakfast) with 2 small beds (no double beds available). The terrace, overlooking the sea, is gorgeous, but that's about it, because other than that the equipement of the room is spartan, it looked like a summercamp room with private bath. So 67 € seemed pretty overpriced to us.
The hotel bill was to be paid upon arrival, which we could understand considering that we stayed only night. But the way we were asked to pay right away appeared, as the service in general, pretty harsh to us. We do not speak Estonian (but many other languages), so the language barrier might have been in the way of a more friendly treatment.
The restaurant looks pretty neat, but we were extremly lucky to be early, as it closes at ....7 pm ! Many people were sent away after the deadline the day we dined there. The food was OK, nothing special, but fresh and prepared with more or less care.
Due to the lack of comfort of our room, we wanted the spend part of the evening in the pub/TV Room area, but in the pub area lights were not even switched on, even though the bar was open. When I finally moved there anyway from the TV room area (because the staff was cleaning the dishes ithere !) with my computer to use the wireless internet, lights were switched on with a smile, the only time during our stay... However around 11 pm I was told that I had to leave the area as they were going to close. I could have understood that the bar would close, but leave a common area of a hotel ? The only place to retreat was the cold reception area at back of the building, where the few seats were taken by other guests also looking for a place out of their minimalistic rooms. They probably had been there the night before, they knew...
There is not many hotels in this area and that's the only reason to sleep here. It would be more correct to call it a Bed & Breakfast or whatever applies to that level of comfort. And restaurant that closes at times when others open, is that really a restaurant ?
