Staying in Chetumal, it was a 180 peso cab ride for us to the cenote. Its possible to come in on trails to the north and not have to see the restaurant untill later. I dont know if theres a fee to swim, no one asked us for any money. Its very deep, but there are rock 'shelves' to step down onto at places. The water was very refreshing, and the view of the restaurant building from out on the water is colourful, tropical looking and pretty memorable. Theres change rooms in the building, tropical birds, and pretty good food, salty though, (warning). It was pretty fun to feed the ducks left over tortillas. Brave souls were jumping into the cenote from the roof of the building, a ladder goes uo there for this activity, although its also a part of the parking lot built into the side of the hill at the access road. I would stop there if you can, you wont forget it soon.

We didn't try their food but they slammed on an extra 25 pesos on the margaritas as it was not lime season. This may be true but nowhere else did we have this in Mexico. As the cenote can only be entered through the restaurant, there is no way of avoiding it. I would limit money spending here.

We went to Cenote Azul for the cenote experience, not the restaurant... so my review is not based on my satisfaction with the restaurant. If you're planning a trip to Bacalar, you have to hit up this cenote for a swim, but take your mask and snorkel if you want to explore!

I expected the water to the frigid, but it wasn't, it was warm and just right (in Jan). The water is CLEAR, not murkey at all, but crystal clear... I couldn't believe it! We swam around the perimeter of the cenote where we saw some fresh water fish (small fish that swim right underneath the surface of the water; cute little guys to watch and larger fish about 4-8 inches long), remarkable formations of perimeter rock and underwater mangrove branches. We dove underneath and between the branches, hung on to a limb here and there for a rest... and enjoyed a relaxing swim in a beautiful place.

After our swim, we did have a nice cerveza and some snacks. The fried plantains were so-so and the rice was cold. I did enjoy the garlic and butter shrimp. This is largely a tourist attraction, expect tourist prices at the restaurant. Admission to cenote itself is very economical.

A nice location besides the cenote, but as cenote goes there is a lot nicer ones all over the peninsula...lots more entertaining than a big round hole in the open...more like a lake than a cenote. The food was average, we had a stir fry of vegetables and sea food. ( shrimps and squid) It was good but nothing over the top, just good..all and all, average....they make it out to be more than it is....
