“Great Stay!”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

In September 2012 we travalled through Yucatan. Coming from Chetumal we checked on Tripadvisor where to go next and we found Casa Aq'ab'al, located directly on the Laguna. We were impressed by all these positive feedbacks (it's hard to add something more) :)
Yolanda was great, she picked us up at the bus station and it felt like coming home. We stayed 4 days and everyday was special and we started with a really delicious breakfast (you have to try Pedro's "Eggs Ranchero"!). Both were great hosts and we had an absolutly relaxing stay. Just in case you need some adventure - we did a tour with Gunnar from 'Active Nature' (5 minutes far away; http://www.activenaturebacalar.com/page45.html) which was really great.

We really enjoyed our time there. We got to this apartments really easy in a car and we felt we were home, because you can bring food and drinks, they have a big kitchen and fridge. The only thing we didnt like it was no fan, so it was really hot. If u go, just take with u a small fan and enjoy paradise. They allow to bring pets :)

The very very best stay during our 27 days in Mexico - no competition at all...!! This is like heaven on earth and a true paradise. If you go to Yucatan, then don't miss this fantastic gem of a place where you will feel pampered and satisfied in all aspects.

The "Paradise" is about 2 kilometers from the highway directly located at the beautiful "Laguna Bacalar". There are 3 options to chose from regarding accommodation - all in different size - so you will for sure find what suits you.

We stayed in "La Estrella" - a small cottage with kitchen, big bed, nice bathroom, table with chairs, etc....lots of space. Outside was another table where you can eat too. Hammocks in the garden, etc.

You pass through the beautiful garden to reach to the lagune, and when you are there you just want to stay for a loooong time. A big "couch" is hanging from the roof and other hammocks, table, chairs, etc. A pier lead you the way, and a small staircase at the end will finally let you enjoy the water. It is absolutely clear and not deep. Wauw - what a view.... We enjoyed many hours there, until it was almost dark.

You can chose to make your own food, or as we did, be a little lazy and enjoy the local food made of the owners. We had a very special dinner which was very delicious and well prepared.

In the night we went to look at the stars - which is perfect here, because there are no lights at all. Amazing........

Breakfast at the lagune, very tasteful and nice, and we soaked in all the impressions we could before we had to leave. We would have loved to stay more days in paradise.

I can't recommend this place enough - and when we go back to south of Mexico, we will definitely be back here again.

Off of the highway at the end of a rural road is a very special gem just waiting for you to discover. The grounds are filled with beautiful palms and mature hardwoods and there are exotic perfumed and colourful flowers here and there throughout. I love the cactus along the fence, useful, artistic and edible. For your recreational pleasure there is a good-sized dock to dive off of into the warm turquoise wate and on the shoreline there is a sheltered area with a table and chairs, lounges and hammocks where you can read or sleep or just hang out and talk, Yes, the location is stunning, but the warm welcome and great hospitality of our hosts Pedro and Yolanda made our stay at "Casa Aq ab al" a completely comfortable and memorable experience. I have never stayed anywhere where I was made to feel more at home.
There are three separate water view apartments and one stand alone cabana. The apartments are up high enough to get a nice breeze and they are furnished in a lovely tasteful fashion to make your stay perfect. All the rentals have well equipped kitchens, but if you don't want to prepare your own meals then Pedro and Yolanda are both superb chefs and will serve you at their own table. The meals are delicious, generous and inexpensive often supplemented by fresh organic produce from their extensive garden and eggs from their happy chickens.
Better than anything you can feel a lot less guilty about your pleasure because this property is run on solar power and well water so their carbon footprint is much lower than your usual luxury resort. For the more sophisticated traveller who wants to get off the beaten path this place is Nirvana.

Room Tip: Make a longer rather than a shorter reservation, because the longer you stay, the better it gets.
