In addition to the excellent food, service, accommodations, meticulous landscaping, scenery, and gracious hosts (!), this place offered the best and easiest BIRD WATCHING of our recent 10 day trip to the Yucatan. The several hectare property offers a wide array of vegetation and structural diversity that attracts many species. Robert has created a circuit path through the jungle. We were there for 3 days in early March and saw roughly 90 bird species including Flame-colored Tanager,
Squirrel Cuckoo, Blue-crowned Motmot, numerous Warblers, numerous Orioles, Common Paraque, Keel-billed Toucan, Ringed Kingfisher, Red-lored Parrot, Masked Tityra, Rose-throated Becard, Red-legged Honeycreeper, and many more. Most species were right there by the casitas! Timing was a little off for shore and water birds, but this is a phenomenally easy place to see a lot of beautiful feathered friends.

A 20 minute drive toward Majahual led to sighting a Jabiru.

In more than a dozen trips to Central America, this was one of our favorite locations.

For some reason I did not check reviews before going there. What a pleasant surprise!. Roberto the owner and his wife treated us amazingly well. The place is beyond beautiful, the food was delicious, the kayaking was memorable and we are ready to repeat the whole experience,

Room Tip: No bad room here.

Roberto, thank you once again for another incredible trip. As usual you took very very good care of us and your conversations were wonderful as always. We even saw the famous Toucan! You have an incredible resort, from the Crystal clear water to the incredibly peaceful quietness. The grounds are immaculate and the rooms are beautiful. And then there’s the food! You definitely have some of the best Fajita’s in Mexico. If you are looking for an incredible escape this is definitely one of the best places we have been to. Escape the loud crowds of the large resorts and treat yourself to this gem. Don’t let the long narrow road discourage you. The end result is well worth it. Once you enter the resort you feel an instant calm as it is so breathtaking. We will continue to return to year after year. See you next February Roberto!

This is truly a beautiful place to come with swimming or kayaking in the tranquil lagoon with its many shades of blue. Everything is very clean, and the area has lovely landscaping. There are lounging chairs in shaded and unshaded areas. The food is excellent. Be aware that it is a long and bumpy drive from the main road; fortunately our visit was part of an excursion from Native Choices and we were being driven by an expert local.

You see pictures of a place and wonder whether it will really look that way-its even better than the pictures. We were here February 17 and 18. My wife and I drove down from Akumal wanting to explore. This wonderful intimate resort is at the north side of Lake Bacalar and about 20 miles north of the town of Bacalar. The trip down the road off 307 was bumpy( rainy season was late and the road grater was scheduled out the next day) but no problem for our compact car and then it looks like a gate to a private estate. The grounds are beautiful. Our room was lovely and overlooked the lake. Aris, the manager and brother in law of the owner, Robert, graciously greeted us. They do not serve lunch and the cook was gone-but Aris offered to cook us something and we had one of the finest meals of the trip of fish and vegetables. Breakfast and dinners are available and are quite good and reasonably priced. We woke up to a flock of green parrots flying overhead and a group of Toucans eating fruit from a tree in front of the restaurant. The lake was smooth as glass and we enjoyed taking a double kayak out. Robert is an excellent host and owner, very interesting, and gave us sound practical advice for our day trips to the Mayan Museum in Chetumal(highly recommend) and the ruins at Kohunlich(beautiful and few people) If you want to relax, enjoy nature, or have a beautiful base to see the nearby sights-My wife and I highly recommend you spend some time here.

Room Tip: Enjoyed our room overllooking the lake-pay a little extra for this
