From the moment we arrived, we were treated to superior service. Roberto, our host, made us feel like we were family visiting his home. What an amazing experience to be able to enjoy this piece of paradise tucked away from the hustle of the usual tourist experience. We will no doubt be returning to this gem - for the location, the service, the food, and yes, the brilliant morning coffee!
Thanks Roberto, looking forward to seeing you again,
Arnie and Michele.

For this Canadian traveller, this really was the best of all worlds. A beautiful freshwater lagoon in a tropical climate. Roberto was a fantastic host and we wanted for nothing....it was all there or he made it happen...even the parrot sighting.
What a great time!! Thanks Roberto.

We popped for a brief lunch visit and swim as part of a Chacchoben tour. What a lovely little gem. Beautiful surroundings, parrots and hummingbirds from the verranda of the gorgeous restaurant building. Great food and a wonderful and memorable host and owner. Highly recommended for a 'getting away from it all' break. We felt like we had the lagoon to ourselves, and with so few rooms, it was idylic and so private. Wish we had longer to enjoy more kayaking and nature spotting! Steve and Nadine from Brighton, Sussex, UK

There are many things to say about this hotel, all of them excellent. Superb attentive service, fantastic clean rooms, food & drink excellent value for money. Add that to the fact it is on the edge of the lagoon & you're onto a real winner here.

Be aware that this hotel is down a dirt track which is great for a 4x4 although we were fine with a 2 wheel drive.

Having been to Costa Maya a few times with NCL, we were looking for something different this time; so we booked a tour to Bacalar Lagoon through "the Native Choice".

Our expectation was simply to go to an inland beach to swim, snorkel and kayak. Frankly, the 45 minute ride from Costa Maya through flat and wet scruff-land started to make us question what we were in for; but as soon as we entered the gates to the Bacalar Lagoon Resort we knew we were in for something special.

The grounds were spacious and inviting; with flowers growing everywere. Seven "bungalows" for use by overnight guest appeared out of the way and yet each one was very close to the lagoon.

Four very clean "change rooms" were also close to the water. It was nice to have cloth beach chairs rather than common plastic; and it became very apparent that Bacalar Lagoon Resort was not a typical tourist excursion.

We had the pleasure of meeting Robert the designer, builder and proud owner of the resort; and he was only too pleased to spend some time with us to show us around, answer our questions, and to make us feel more than welcome. His pride of ownership is reflected in every aspect of the resort.

Our lunch on the second floor terrace was excellant; and we would be remise if we did not mention how friendly the staff was. The Kayaking was very enjoyable s well.

We had only a few hours at Badcalar Lagoon Resort; but they were the most relaxing, pleasant, and enjoyable hours of our vacation. So much so, that we plan to go back in the near future to spend a few days at the resort; so we can fully experience quality peace and relaxation that this resort offers.

Room Tip: Only seven "bungalows" and each one is exceptional for cleanliness, location, and view. Y...

For our cruise we booked an excursion in Cozumel (The Jeep/Beach Adventure which was disappointing, particularly because of the lame snorkeling location) and Costa Maya (the Chachoben Extreem). The Costa Maya tour was everything that the Cozumel tour was not. It first took us to the ruins, a very interesting and informative tour hosted by guide Ivan who grew up in the area and culminated with an almost surreal experience at the Bacalar Lagoon Resort. Roberto, the owner, interacts with the guests and displays a genuine love for his "bit of paradise" as he calls it. Kasi, a local darling who guided that part of the tour, was also the bar-tender and made fabulous margaritas and pina coladas. Her first hand account of surviving hurricane Dean was amazing. I agree with all the good reviews that I have read here and will add that this brief visit here was worth the whole trip. The view is nothing short of an artist's dream fantasy, the clear turquoise water so refreshing and mesmerizing, the layout, architecture and landscaping so well planned that one cannot help but feel relaxed and stress free. The swimming, kayaking, delicious food and refreshments were added bonuses. This is an ideal place for weddings (Kasi's aunt had hers here just a few weeks ago), honey-mooners, anniversary celebrations and romantic get-aways, for artists and writers and family vacations alike. A visit to the ruins is a must and Belize is only an hour away. Located only 4 hours drive south of Cancun and 2 1\2 hours from Playa del Carmen, with access from a newly constructed road, the Bacalar Lagoon Resort is the most perfect place to be and, as such, it is the best kept secret in all of Mexico. A part of me wants to keep it a secret, however, it would be just wrong and selfish to not share it. My wife and I, along with our two children definitely plan on going there for a future stay. So, don't think about it, just go and spread the word.

Room Tip: There are seven cabanas with a choice of 1 or 2 rooms. Maximum occupency in a 2 room is 5 persons. M...

This place is the perfect get away from the tourists and crowds in Cancun. After leaving there and touring the Mayan ruins in Tulum, this was just a short ride further south down the highway, we turned off onto the scenic jungle road and about mile later entered the little slice of paradise at the Bacalar Lagoon Resort. Several authentic Mayan palapa guest cabanas, lush landscape and vegetation beautifully designed by the proprietor, Roberto, and the stunning turquoise fresh water lagoon, the palapa restaurant has a terrace with gorgeous view of the water and grounds and is a wonderful relaxing place to enjoy a delicious margarita and wonderful meal of authentic Mexican food prepared by the gracious host Roberto and his wife while savoring the breeze and views, or walk down to the dock to enjoy the view from the comfortable chaise lounge chairs. The private palapa bedroom suites are meticulously clean and the spacious bath with walk in stone shower are designed with lovely attention to detail. The resort features plenty of kayaks and a boat ramp for exploring the 50 plus miles of freshwater lagoon or simply climb into the gentle water for a swim and there is even a water slide for the kids and adults. There is also a gym on the premises. You will feel the tranquility at this gem of a place, unlike no other in Mexico, and maybe even spot a toucan. I look forward to going back soon!
