Brancion is a special place. It is one of our favorite places to stay in the Burgundy region. A picturesque village with historic castle (Chateau de Brancion) and 12th-century Church of St. Peter, it is located west of Tournus on a ridge overlooking the farms and forests of the Grosne Valley to the west. The Auberge du Vieux Brancion (71700 Brancion, France) provides comfortable accomodations and delicious meals. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with bath and toilet on the same floor. It is a great location, providing a quiet and peaceful retreat, yet it is a short drive to Cormatin and Cluny. No cars are allowed in the village, except for residents and guests.

If you can't stay overnight, you should take some time to explore the village and enjoy a meal. The chateau is well worth a visit. The top of the Keep affords a fine view of the surrounding countryside. The chateau and auberge have been owned by the du Murard family since the mid-19th century. Francois and Marie-Caroline operate a fine establishment. Francois cooks and manages the restaurant and Marie-Caroline manages the auberge. Both speak English very well. It is open from March 15 to November 15. For information and reservations, Google "brancion.fr".
