“Mediocre food and two dogs in the restaurant....yuk”

We were staying nearby and booked to eat at this restaurant. If there had been anywhere else near, we would have cancelled our reservation when we saw that someone was eating with a dog on their lap! We persevered and the meal was ok, but not great. During our meal, another couple came and sat at the adjacent table with a dog and they spent the evening feeding it under the table as it whimpered. So unhygienic and really not what you expect when paying this type of money . The waitress was very nice though.

We booked this particular hotel as we wanted to view the raw power of the ocean without the noise and fuss of a holiday resort.
for this it was perfect. I mark it down a notch only for the fact that we were unable to have a meal in the restaurant the night we arrived owing to a large coach party coming in.
We did get directed to a beech hut type premises within walking distance and enjoyed the pizza there.
There are laundry facilities in the hotel which as we are bikers was great and we made good our next night in the restaurant whilst the washing tumbled dry.

We've been eating here four or five times a year for almost ten years and it's only just occurred to me to share our love of the place with others. The location is simply unbeatable, the food first class and the service excellent. It's family owned and run and it shows - some of the staff have been there for a dozen years or more, and M le Chef seems to know just about every diner. It's friendly, unpretentious and very welcoming. If you want Sunday lunch in season, book a week or two ahead, and ask for a table next to the window. Lighter meals are avaiolable on the terrace in summer.

breathtaking position, fabulous views, and the warmest staff ever... cosy rooms with seaviews, beautiful locally sourced food (crab, langoustines, fish) from the swish restaurant, great croissants at breakfast. recommending this hotel might make it tricky to book next time, but it is so deserved!!!

This is a truely fantastic place, and I would thoroughly recommend it!

We were touring Brittany in high summer season, and happened across Breiz Armor in the tiny village of Penhors on a sunny Saturday. It looked so attractive, with a very busy, colourful terrace area looking out over a small working harbour and the beautiful Bay D'Audierne.

We had wanted 3 nights there, but it was fully booked for the Saturday. I'm really pleased that we persevered, though, and stayed for the following 2 nights.

The rooms are modern, clean, really simple decoration, and with fantastic shower/bathrooms, and all look over the sea. We were on the first floor, and had a small private balcony - bliss!

We are body-boarders, and the hotel really could not be better placed. A walk across the road, and you're there, on the beach, ready to go. A much better place to locate yourself for surfing than Pointe de la Torche, which is so much busier and more commercial, and doesn't have Breiz Armor to return to!!!

The hotel was relaxed about us hanging up surfing kit and clothes to dry on the balcony (although we were discreet), and for a small charge there are also washing machine and drying machine facilities (not for neoprene!!).

The food (and the service) was extremely good. There is both a restaurant (set menus and al a carte), more expensive than the brasserie, which is an al a carte menu. The brasserie also serves on the front terrace. Both have a very good range of food, although the hotel specialises in seafood - bliss, again!

Breakfast was served in a third room. It was buffet style, with a very good choice and quality. Our one small niggle was that coffee came out of a machine. While it wasn't as bad as some machine-coffee we've had to drink, it's just so unexpected in a french hotel (particularly one as good as this) to not be served with real, fresh coffee.

The hotel has really great facilities - private parking around the back, a big play area for children which can be overseen from the terrace, a spa and a gym.

I'm very surprised that this hotel only commands a 2-star rating. Both in terms of its prices, but more importantly, in terms of its food / rooms / facilities, it offers so much more.

A place not to be missed!

Breiz Armor – Pouldreuzic
Quite surprised that this is one of the few reviews of Breiz Armour on TripAdvisor – so I have decided to make it a comprehensive one. It is a delightful hotel and well worth a visit for at least 2- 3 days if not longer!
Wanted to stay for 3 nights right by the sea and this hotel certainly fitted the bill. Location about 25 yards from the very small tidal harbour on Penhors beach with no buildings whatsoever between the hotel and the Atlantic Ocean. Sea view room booked via Logis website. First floor room with nice double bed, bathroom & free wifi. Door opened out onto huge communal balcony which stretches around the front of the hotel giving a magnificent view of the sea and vast beach . There were only a few people staying in the hotel when we were there so we actually had the whole balcony area to ourselves – chairs, tables and loungers provided outside each room. Suspect in high summer season it might get a bit busy on the balcony area but it really is vast. Each room has roller shutters operated from inside which effectively block out light, sound of the waves crashing and provide excellent security.
Room also equipped with a fridge ( great for chilling some rose wine ), air conditioning and a safe. Plenty of parking at the rear of the hotel and access after 10pm was via key through a rear door. We used this hotel as a base for exploring this part of Brittany and it was very convenient to get to Quimper, Pointe Du Raz etc.
Our first night was a Saturday and this hotel quite clearly is a big favourite with the locals and is the only restaurant for about 3-4 miles. There were a couple of bars open but don’t think they did food in the evenings ( or at all ). We managed to get the last table in the restaurant Sat night for dinner and despite being right by the door to the kitchen and entrance way we had a good meal ( 29 euro set menu ). The restaurant specialises in seafood with lobsters stored in a boat in the hallway waiting for their despatch ! A La Carte menu included lots of meat options as well. Six locals came in wearing traditional Breton costume which made for quite a colourful evening. Restaurant has a panoramic view out to sea and the best tables are next to the window.
We ate the next two nights also in the restaurant as it was very good and after a day sightseeing did not want to drive off to find somewhere else. On Monday nights the restaurant only provides food for residents with a set 3 course menu ( 23 euros ) which you need to book before noon on a Monday to get. Think this meal was our best with a fish soup starter, grilled bass main course and choice of desert. Wine list was comprehensive and had some good Rose de Loire for just 10 euros as well as local cider for 6 euros a litre.
Breakfast was served in a different room - but with sea views – and was a good selection of breads, croissant, cheese, ham etc
Despite the area being quite remote there was a lot going on and expect in July/August it would be quite busy. The beach is great for long walks when the tide is out but don’t think it is particulary good for bathing – running in and out of the waves would be fine but suspect there are some strong currents further out. Hotel also has some self catering appartments close by which looked good as well as running a “sea shell museum” across the car park .Hotel has a nice large garden area to the side with tables and rush style parasols – there is also an old chapel about 100 yards away which I think you can visit with a key from reception.
If you are looking for plenty of sea air, panoramic beach views and excellent sea food then spend at least 2 or 3 days here. They have a useful website which enables online booking. We would return again for the food & views and proximity to the sea. A most enjoyable stay !

Room Tip: Rooms at front have best sea view from balcony
