Large parts of Finistere are hotel-free zones; we read about this one in a French guide but just arrived & went in to book a room. Good reception, choice of 2 rooms. No.19 we chose & can recommend, as it was reasonable size & had a small balcony with table/chairs & good view over sea/coastline. Very smart room, modern -especially for this part of France- clean & good bed. The only possible drawback, which wouldn't bother lots of people is that, though the w.c. is en-suite & has a door, the very chic bath/shower, washbasin etc., is open to the bedroom, thus one can have a shower whilst viewing the ocean!! It actually works very well. There is a desk, armchairs, small 'fridge with bottled water & also some toiletries are provided.
Absolutely excellent restaurant, very im portant, this, as the hotel is in a wild, relatively isolated position on a cliff top by a lighthouse & if one wants to eat elsewhere...the car is necessary.
Not cheap but well presented & served & there is a bar/coffee lounge inside & small terrace (by side of road) outside. Parking is in the lighthouse/abbey (yes!) public car park, very visible. We can't wait to go again-what better recommendation is there!

We wanted to visit this hotel as its is really at the edge of the atlantic coast next to a lighthouse and a ruin of an old monastery. The hotel is really excellent, as you can see in the photos. The rooms have a very stylish contemporary design feel to them, with the showers actually being in the bedroom and not locked away in a seperate bathroom. Many of the rooms offer fantastic views over the lighthouse and the coastline.
The hotel also has a gourmet restaurant, a swimming pool and a nice bar.
Even if this hotel was not the cheapest (around 120 euros) I would not hesitate to go back there, simply for the feeling of having a design hotel at the end of France.

The location is everything here. - While I do not know for a fact, I believe this might well be the hotel furtherest west on the French mainland. It is fully exposed to he winds and the sea. We were lucky enough to be there on a stormy day, the winds were so strong that we had to hold on not to be pushed back. Indeed, you need to like this kind of stuff, but I believe Brittany is at its best in the winter. The hotel itself is fine. The rooms must have been renovated recently and are clean and comfortable. The restaurant is good. This is no luxury hotel but again think of where you are! Definitely worth a stop over on a tour of Brittany.

We stayed for two nights at this hotel. Being a bit of a lighthouse fanatic this appeared an ideal hotel, just across the road from the Pointe Saint-Mathieu lighthouse. Unfortunately we hardly saw the lighthouse due to the very heavy mist/fog for the whole of our stay. The weather had a very negative effect on our stay, and clouded our opinion of the hotel, much of it no fault of the hotel itself.

On arrival, having driven in very heavy fog for an hour, with at times very little visibility, we found it would not be possible to have dinner in the reknowned restaurant, as they were fully booked. We probably should have rung and reserved, especially on a Saturday, but generally you don't expect that when staying as a resident, especially out of season. The staff were sympathetic, but very firm that we couldn't eat under any circumstances. So we had to go out, and there is absolutely nothing within 4kms. The return journey after a passable meal was extremely difficult in the dark, as the fog had become much worse.

The room itself was good, although the shower was only a hand held attachment to the small bath. Hotel facilities were clean and pleasant, and the bar/breakfast room was very welcomng, with a good breakfast.

There was no problem getting into the restaurant on the Sunday night, partly because this seemed to be the chef's night off, with a fixed menu, with two choices for main course. Thus we didn't really get to sample the much vaunted skills of the owner/chef - another disappointment. The restaurant is quite formal, in the french style - ie. staff are very formal, but you don't actually feel out of place in jeans. There was a good wine list, and the food presented was very good, so I'm sure the full menu would be excellent.

As I said above, much of our disappointment with the hotel was down to the weather and inability to try out the full restaurant. The staff were friendly, with good service. The hotel was comfortable and would provide a good base to explore the westernmost tip of Brittany. Unfortunately I can't tell you what the area is like as we rarely could see the sea/cliffs/landscape during our stay :). However Oceanopolis in Brest is highly recommended as a good day out.

I would probably recommend this hotel, and would probably give it another chance if I visited the area again, but overall it was a pretty average experience for us.

I stayed at the hotel for two nights in August while on holiday in Brittany with my wife and two sons (4 and 7).

I can't recommend this hotel highly enough, particularly for a short stay whilst travelling for pleasure or business in Brittany.

Pointe Saint Mathieu consists only of the hotel, a few houses, the ruined monastery, the very impressive lighthouse and an unspoilt stretch of rugged Atlantic coastline. However, within a couple of kilometres there is a relatively upmarket beach resort and a small touristy Breton town in the other direction

The family room we stayed in was well designed and comfortable (with two adjoining rooms and an en suite).

The hotel restaurant was superb, both in terms of the standard of cuisine and service. The bar was relaxed (furbished with a wooden nautical theme)and the friendly staff very accomodating to our children.

At the time of our stay the other guests were mainly tourists, but the hotel is apparently popular with business travellers visiting Brest (the western suburbs of the city are on 20 minutes drive from the hotel) .

The hotel would also make an ideal location for a weekend break.

The indoor pool area was a good alternative the beach when it rained, but the water was a little chilly.

A great hotel run by professional, friendly staff.

When travelling to Brittany recently and missing our flight, we then had to travel to Brest, so all our arrangements for staying in Trebeurden for the night went out the window. However, we travelled in our hire car to Finistere, approx. 1 hr away from Brest, where this lovely hotel was right opposite a lighthouse. We booked a table in the restaurant, which was very busy for a Thursday evening, and the food was absolutely excellent. It was one of the best meals we had had, and although not cheap, not overly expensive. Well worth a visit!I think the Chef and his wife owned the hotel, as he came to change a lightbulb in our bedroom in his uniform! There is a heated swimming pool there too, although we had not taken our costumes being November, so could not take advantage, although it was lovely and warm in there. The coastline is lovely along here and we travelled from what appeared to be the edge of the world right round to Dinard, where we should have flown to in the first place!
