Cesiak Centro Ecologico Sian Ka'an

My plan was to check-in at CESiaK to enjoy 4 days, 3 nights of nature, not clean a single dish while eating like a king, relax in hammocks and play in the water. With the help of the amazing staff, I accomplished all of these things and more. Gabi checked me in to my cabin which I found very well appointed with a large, comfy bed, shelving to unpack my personal items, 2 hurricane lamps and bath / beach towels. There was always a refreshing breeze - probably best sleep I've had in years! I must say that there's something nostalgic and nautical about lighting a hurricane lamp, at no point did I even think about needing power. Chris, Faosto and Geronimo in the kitchen took incredible care of my every culinary need - be sure to try the motuleños for breakfast, chicken fajitas for lunch and the fish filet with olive oil and cilantro for dinner! Paolo assisted me with an unplanned ice shortage (shame on me!) and the maintenance team always had the property looking fantastic. The communal bathrooms and showers were always available, clean and closeby. While I spent A LOT of time in a hammock, I spent significant time on their private beach (with no neighbors for miles), the lagoon dock, complete with thatched roof and hammocks and just wandering around the massive property. You'd be hard pressed to find a better team, location and value. Thanks CESiaK!

We have stayed at Cesiak MANY times because of it's amazing beach, simple accomodations and the privacy of being situated in Sian Kaan away from the hubbub of the beach hotels of Tulum. This trip we walked for an hour in each direction and met NOBODY. This year we tried to make a reservation for 2 months but they had changed email contact. from .org to .com and didn't get their mail forwarded. Google Cesiak and you get the old info. The new mgt. acknowledge the drop in sales but seem unconcerned. The tents are getting tattered and worn. The railing fell off the side of our tent#2 when I leaned on it. They finally rebuilt the beach stairs but this year they had no cots on the beach whatsoever. The main building is the hub for food, drinks, internet, W/C and showers. You can charge batteries and there are lockers. The regular waiters are great (high 5 to Geronimo and Cesse) but twice we were reluctantly served by a couple of disinterested young guys who seemed to be daytime guides, unshaven & barefoot in dirty shirts and shorts. The manager of the day was hard to communicate with when asked about fishing. He obviously wants to sell tours and angrily accused anybodys motives to fish otherwise; dangerous, illegal and disrespectfull of Sian Kaan and Mx. This is not the truth but it is very difficult to find out the rules in this part of Mx. Licenses are available online. Cesiak is an amazing location. It is beginning to get overvalued but I have heard there is a facelift in the works. I suggest bringing a battery lantern and headlamps. A cooler for drinks and a stop for supplies in Tulum is recommended. It's too bad they don't create a little shop w/ proper field guides, Save the turtle type shirts, etc ... It's only 250 pesos and 20 min. to town for a break if you are there for a long stretch. There are other transp. means if you don't have a car. you might wish you had a boogie board and books go fast at Cesiak.

Room Tip: ask to see your tent. ask for a chair if missing and clothes pins ...

Stayed at the beautiful Casa Redondo which is right on the beach. Woke up every morning to the sound of the wind and waves, made my espresso at the sparse kitchen, walked out to the wrap-around balcony and watched the sun rise over the ocean.

Took long walks on the beach, went for swims whenever it got hot, chilled with a Margarita or a cerveza, read books on the hammock...basically had a great time unwinding.

Cesiak also does a canal tour which all of us thought was the highlight of our trip. Hugo, who was the guide was really good. Staff is really friendly and helpful (thanks, Ana, Polo, Gabriela, Gregorio and Jeronimo).

I wan't looking forward to this from the beginning -- wanting more amenities. A tent on a platform doesn't seem appealing. I got over that in a couple of days. Ready access to beautiful beach and water. Adequate shared shower facilities. Very helpful staff. We'll staff kitchen with excellent service and food quality. With a car access to the hotel strip is easy. I recommend this property with qualifications that you don't have all the creatures of home in your room, but in a short walk you can find it. i could have stayed longer, as the days melted from one to the next in a peaceful flow. Overalll beautiful with excellent staff.

It was an awesome experience. The place is lucky enough to have the sea one side, and a lagoon on the other, both sunsets and sunrises are just unique. The ecological approach made it a huge plus for me. The staff is super friendly as well as prepared, the have specialist that know what they are talking about and are happy to explain. To be honest, one of the best views of the caribean ocean. It was a little far from the town, but to be honest that was one of the reason I choose to stay there :).

This place was absolutely brilliant!! Located in Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, the eco lodge sits on a strip of land, bordered by stunning beaches on one side and a huge lagoon on the other. The setting is breath-taking, and the photos from the roof of the main building are some of the best of our entire holiday. The main building is well-staffed, with excellent amenities, and the food at the restaurant was excellent.

The tent cabins are spaced out a fair distance from the main building, which gives the place a real isolated feel; exactly what you want when you stay somewhere like this. They sit directly above the beach, so the views and sounds from the rooms are incredible! The beach was lovely and pristine, a nice change from a lot of the Mexican beaches we visited, and can only be reached from the main building, so stays that way.

The rooms themselves are great. We stayed a little away from the toilets, which was a good idea (as they do get a bit smelly!), and in one of their more expensive cabins, with proper walls and a door. My sister and her friends stayed in an actual tent directly across from us, and seemed to like it just fine. The toilets were always clean, despite the smell, and though the showers weren't all that private, with two showers to a room, it was easy enough to lock the door.

Besides the setting, the greatest thing about this place was definitely the staff! They were so great! Everyone was incredibly friendly, happy, fun, but how could you not be if you worked somewhere like this! The restaurant was great (the upstairs setting is fantastic!), and Cato and Caesar kept us going with many, many potent margaritas! We enjoyed an excellent kayak trip on the lagoon with Ben, and were truly impressed with his expertise and knowledge. The emphasis on conservation and relaxation was a refreshing change from the nearby craziness of Tulum!

In all, a truly incredible place to stay, and an experience I will never forget.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the toilet block!

This is my third time in CEsiak. Three weeks in paradise again. I am so overcome each time by how beautiful the stars are. One of the benefits of living in a place with little or no lights (each room has candle lamps) is the glory of the night sky in full splendor. The sun rises are each stunning and exquisite in the own way, golden over the Atlantic directly in front of the hotel. The sunsets are a pastel painting over the subtle lagoon with blue and green hues, which you watch with the rest of the guests and staff from the rooftop. The moon rises over the water, which we can see from our dinner table, and the whole staff stops what they are doing to watch with you. If you love being in nature, and you love "glamping" (glamorous camping), this place is for you. Ask Fausto, Cris, or Carlos to make you a dinner "especial" with meat, fish, or vegetarian options; you you will see a masterpiece. They put so much creative care into their food. I have started taking pictures of each plate with the chef when finished, they are that beautiful! The hammocks on each porch are a perfect place to rest after a day of tours, ocean wave swimming, and birdwatching. The staff, those who actually work here in the Boca Paila camps and on the tours, is pure gold, and they deserve to be treated with much respect.

Room Tip: Cabin 7 is my favorite.
