“Will remember forever!”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

This was without a doubt the highlight of our time in Mexico. Great guide (Jorge), beautiful scenery, abundant wildlife and the most relaxing day I've had in years. Most of all I will never forget the best part, where we were asked to leave all our possessions, walk across the grasslands to some Mayan ruins and then jumped into crystal blue, fresh spring-water rivulet and floated on our backs until we ended up back at our boat. Amazing!

“Interesting day out - worth the money”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

We decided to book this excursion through our first choice rep Hector, the cost was £105 as we liked the sound of seeing the wilder side of Mexico in its natural beauty. An early start of 6.45 am made us both a bit apprehensive but as it turned out was nice, peaceful and a little cooler at that time of morning.

We set off on a small mini bus that picked up other people from hotels en route , our hotel iberostar tucan was the second stop as a nice English couple were already on the bus . When we arrived at a rest room / bar we were given a talk on what to expect and possibly see, this was both entertaining and informative.

We were led to an open top all-terrain vehicle, as our bus sped along a long dusty track with jungle either side, our guide who was excellent explained about the cultural and environmental issues of Mexico, with the warning of not to touch the wild animals and leave shells and the natural habitat as we found it, the journey along this part was a good 2 hours but as we were listening to all the information it quickly went by. There are drinks on board included in the price (which we didn’t realise), though it is a task trying to drink on a very bumpy track!

We came to a bridge, open with a view of the lagoon on one side and the sea on the other , a rickety bridge stood alongside the main one where locals were fishing , This was a brief welcome stop with a chance to get nice photos and stretch the legs .

Next it was on to the lovely little fishing village of Punta Allen, here we were supplied with a brief snack, drink and chance to change into swimwear ready to go on board the speedboat, you have to wear a life jacket on board, which they provide (6 in each speedboat so not crammed).
Once out in the huge lagoon if you are lucky you get to see the sea turtles, dolphins, cormorants, sea eagles and pelicans. After this a quick half an hour snorkel in the water around a reef, with a lot of different coloured fish to see. We then went to a shallow stretch to relax , some of us enjoyed Tequila, I believe is a Mexican drink, aherm , and see star fish, didn’t want to leave this bit.

Finally arrived at the restaurant to have a late lunch which was delicious and plenty of variety, you could even of ordered lobster at a price of $35 extra. After the lovely meal it was time for the long journey back, we felt it was well worth the money. However if in any way you suffer from back problems or are pregnant this is not for you as it is a very bumpy pot holed and dusty road. If however, you like to see a bit of the real Mexico, and are fortunate enough to have a guide as informative and determined to give you your money’s worth as we had, and sit back, enjoying the different views along the way….

This is my second time there. This time, I took the advice of Anat and Marcelo at Hostel Rio, at Playa del Carmen, and had a wonderful day kayaking at the laguna with Rene. The beach is also beautiful!!!!
