Good starters, dreadful main courses. Very disappointed. Our first visit, only went as the Fox and Hounds weren't doing food.
The main courses were really poor - and from the specials board so no excuse. The 'roast' vegetables appeared to be boiled veg and then finished off in oil - very very overcooked, the carrots thinly sliced so that they were soft and had lost all texture and flavour. Hard to believe they started off being roasted - they had no sign of being seared/roasted at all.
The liver was grey and was swimming in gravy - not the best of gravy either, and the fries were sitting in the gravy as well, so they were soggy. It was visually unappealing and reminded me of the worst school dinners. The fish pie was very dry, as if it had been reheated a few times.
The red wine was pretty poor as well.
Such a shame, as the starters were actually nice. They were freshly cooked, but the mains seemed to be reheats or just badly cooked. Chef's night off?
When we complained we were told other people like it, and that was that. So we paid in full and left hungry.More
