Hotel Le Clos de la Prairie
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 5, 2013

We have just returned from a weekend break at Le Clos de la Prairie. It was absolutely lovely - peacefully located in the Picardy countryside within easy reach of the coast and many lovely villages, towns and beaches. We took the scenic coast road to get there and back stopping lots as we were lucky with the weather and the beaches are beautiful all the way down but it is only an hour from Calais on the motorway.

We stayed in a great family room - thoughtfully designed with the bathroom in the middle so that the children's bunks were at one end and the parent's area at the other and not all lying in a row of beds as we have previously experienced! The room was spacious and beautifully decorated with contemporary French style furniture, super-comfortable beds and lovely linens. The bathroom was fabulous - spacious and beautifully styled with a lovely walk-in shower. In addition there was a small private furnished terrace on which to sit out. It was lovely and quiet and everyone slept well.

The owners are a delightful couple who run the place beautifully - Sandrine so welcoming and friendly at front of house and Sebastien preparing the most delicious food in the kitchen but also finding time to come and chat and make sure that everything was perfect for the guests. The dinner was excellent - beautifully cooked using local produce and there were delicious fresh options for the children as well. Breakfast too - fresh bread, pastries, cheese, ham, fruit, eggs - it just kept coming to the point where no lunch was eaten on our first day!

I cannot recommend this place highly enough - we can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: All rooms are ground floor so no access problems and we didn't hear a sound from anyone else.

Having carefully looked around North France for a break with friends I chose this hotel and restaurant.
We all found it fautless!
The hosts were a lovely friendly, and helpful couple.
The situation was a peacefull rural village and the room was as good as any we have stayed in witha very comfortable bed and superb shower room. Plenty of hot water and air con/heating that worked.
The set dinner with limited choice was again near perfect and I can normally find some fault but not here. Excellent Chef with his lovely wife serving. The beef (local Charolais) was the best I have ever had!
We follow Alastair Sawday places to stay and this was probably the best.

Room Tip: If you want to spoil yourself or your partner stay and eat here.

A large and comfortable bed, a luxurious shower room, comfortable arm chairs with TV, facility to make hot drinks and chairs on a little terrace carefully screened off from those either side and overlooking pasture and woodland all contributed to a really relaxing and tranquil experience. The hosts are attentive and nothing is too much trouble, a feature too of the restaurant which makes innovative use of fresh and local produce. With the provision of amuse bouche and palate cleansing sorbet, the food here is an experience all on its own. Be careful though because you will need to ensure that you have room for the fresh fruit kebabs, cereal, vanilla cream, eggs, ham and viennoiserie served at breakfast! Not ' budget' prices but real quality and therefore real value for money

This hotel is so easily accessible from the Tunnel that it made for a great weekend break from a snowy UK. The gismo overview we received on arrival was very welcome and meant we really benefited from the efficient aircon, for example; the standard of fixtures, fittings and WiFi was superb; the restaurant was a lovely experience with really personal and quality service; and the night's sleep we enjoyed nestled in the attractive rural setting was lovely - we definitely intend to revisit in the sunshine!

We stayed on a cold, snowy February night but the owners made us feel very welcome.
The hotel has only recently been completed and the rooms have all the latest equipment, flat screen TV, very modern bathrooms, Wi-Fi etc.
Probably the best dinner that we had in 10 days of travelling cooked by Sebastian and served by his wife Sandrine. Lots of extras included with the dinner.
Only 5 minutes off the main road and less than an hour to Calais. I am sure that we will be returning.

Highly recommended

After a long day in the car, it was wonderful to turn up at the Clos de la Prairie to a very warm welcome. The weather, in late September, was not ideal, dank and drizzly, but we were led to our room, and it really was beautiful..Huge glass windows, floor to ceiling, looking out across untouched countryside. The bathroom was in fact a "wet room" and top of the range modern. This was quite one of the nicest rooms we've had in our years of French travelling. We had tea/coffee making facilities, but no milk, but this was produced instantly with a smile. We could not have been more comfortable.

Dinner was excellent - a small set menu, although two of the items we chose had a surcharge (always a little annoying). I have to say though we did have the best foie gras I have ever eaten, and I have sampled very many versions over the years. Breakfast too was superb - original and beautifully presented. Sebastian is without doubt a wonderful chef.

The only down side for us was that we were the only people staying and having dinner on that night, and it made the whole experience a little low key. One other point I would make, which is strange after my last remark, is that if other people had been there, and the weather good, I think the rooms would have a lack of privacy. The sliding windows open on to a terrace which runs the length of the building, with no divisions, so if sitting outside everyone would have been very on top of each other. Maybe some high pot plants between rooms would have helped?

If in the area I would certainly go again and it is about an hour from Calais, so ideal for an overnight stop on the way home.

Arrived late at night but we were made very welcome by the owners. We were shown our room, which was modern and comfortable, yet tastefully and expensively decorated and had everything we needed including tea and coffeee making facilities. Dinner in the restaurant was fantastic and served promptly and politely, by the owner's wife. Food was to Michelin standards and wine was chilled to perfection. Both hosts were very friendly and helpful without being instrusive. The hotel's situation is very rural so also very peaceful, which made for a wonderful night's sleep! Breakfast was very good - enough for the most ravenous of eaters! Prices are reasonable if compared to the normal chain hotels, whilst most hotels could not compete with the standard of food quality, service and attentiveness provided at Le Clos! Sitting on the outside room patio in the morning sunshine overlooking fields and forests was a joy. Only an hour from Calais, a hidden gem of a hotel! We will most definitely be back to stay there when travelling in France.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent and have patios.
