We spent a week in Puerto Rico and had an awesome time on this tour of Maria and Artemio's Hacienda. Undoubtedly, one of the coolest things we did on our trip.

The drive out to Las Marias was beautiful -some really great views from the winding road of the central PR hills.

When we got there Maria gave a tour of their farm. We visited at the tail end of their Arabica harvest season and were able to pick and taste the coffee berries off the plants. She showed us their various processes and ended the tour with a smooth cup of their premium roast.

Artemio also runs a restaurant and cooked up some really tasty Puerto Rican food. They were very attentive to our vegetarian diet and put together a very nice lunch. As the previous reviewer had mentioned, Maria's coffee flan is not to be missed!

All in all a great experience for our family and well worth the 2 hour drive from San Juan.

My husband and I spent a week in Puerto Rico and we drove all over the island. We are huge coffee lovers and I wanted to go to a Hacienda. I checked the day we were going and this was the only one open. The one and only CON to this beautiful spot is it is very challenging to find. We didn’t speak Spanish which didn’t help, and it took us six hours from San Juan. The ride back was 3 hours, so most of that six was lost in the hills. With that said, I would do it again in a heart beat. I called at about noon that day to get directions and let them know we were coming, and when we showed up at nearly 5, the owner was outside and said “I have been waiting for you”. She gave us an amazing tour, and we had the best meal we had on the entire island! The food was absolutely perfect, the coffee flan was amazing (and I dont normally like flan). The plantation was beautiful and we enjoyed every second there. I would have left SJ really early in the morning (we left at 10), and prepare to stop about a hundred times and ask for directions. Allow time to fight with your spouse. Overall, we would do it again, we both loved it!

Hemos pensado en video indicando como llegar o rotulos que a pesar que parece ser lo mas facil es un poco complicado por los permisos de rotulacion.

We spent a weekend in Las Marías with very dear friends and had an excellent time at La Casona. The food and drinks were great and we had the added benefit of an incredible performance of Puerto Rican folk singers ("trovadores"), four of them in a friendly duel. Two of the fellows were locals from Las Marías and singing in front of their home crowd! It was a bummer when the night was over! We shall return!

I have been to various typical restaurants around the island, but if you want to travel back in time and try delicious Puerto Rican food this is the place to be. It is a small restaurant in the middle of a coffee farm in the town of Las Marias. We went with a group of family and friends for first time this last weekend. Be prepared to travel by narrow secondary roads. And if you come from the coast be prepare for a few hours of travel before coming to this wonderful place. The business is attended by its own owners and family. And it is child friendly. Before you go you can call the owners and they will gladly explain the best way to arrive depending on where you come from. You can also visit their Facebook page: "La Casona de Artemio" and there you will have more info about this place. Believe me if we got there with a group of Canadians who were vacationing in Puerto Rico you can also get there.

Initially we recommend the house specialty, "tostonburger” ==> plantain burger or “panaburger” ==> bread fruit burger, both made with skirt stake, not regular burger meat. Then a home made coffee custard and to finish a cup of their own brand coffee, picked and processed on the owners coffee farm.

If you have the time and want to know about the preparation of coffee take a tour with the owner of the restaurant. She will gladly show you the farm and all that entails the picking and processing of coffee, the different types and how to get it to your coffee mug for you to enjoy.

Take the time and visit them, you will not regret it.
