We were here in the monsoons when Goa is lashed by massive rains every day and any hotel struggles to make things work. Vivenda is blessed with its location - about 12-15 minute walk from the beach and yet far away from all the noise. It is located in a village just off the main road and it is a very peaceful place. Yes, there are the usual sounds that one would expect in a village. also, this is more of an urban village than a rural one. A charming little place, Vivenda is a delight for so many reasons, but primarily because it is a home away from home. You simply dont get the feeling that you are staying in a hotel and that is a big plus for me. the pool is charming, not the usual big fancy ones but good enough to get a nice swim and relax. The food was simply great, though the coffee was terrible. We found the food a tad expensive, and perhaps they dont expect their guests to eat there too much. The place has a lot of charm and history, almost a little quaint.
Each room is different and ours was tucked away from the main house and was full of books of the owners. I loved just flipping through that extensive collection of books (and there are more in the main house). Vivenda is a place where you should not go if your expectations are that of a 'hotel' - it has everything that you may need on a holiday but is clearly meant for those guests who like to keep to themselves and will not demand the earth (and the moon) from the staff. It is a place where you are expected to be accommodating. We had an unfortunate issue with our AC (August can get quite humid at nights) - it was malfunctioning and the person who showed us our room on Day 1 knew about it. The staff, none of them even remotely technically inclined, tried all kinds of stunts to get it to work (from kicking the transformer to multiple changes in the batteries of the remote). While their attempts worked on an occasion it didnt on the next night and we slept with the fan. On the 3rd night, back from a long party in Baga, I could not bear it anymore and persuaded the security guard to let us sleep in one of the vacant rooms. The staff, while responsive, displayed the typical Goan attitude (of taking things casually) and I am very sure that would not have been the case if the owners were around to supervise them. We would go back for sure, but will ensure that one of the owners is around so that everything works the way it is supposed to.
