“Unbeatable”
Reviewed October 26, 2016 for a stay in August 2015

The village of Saint Antonin Noble Val exceeded all my expectations. Delightfully consisting of very narrow cobbled roads, many of which are too small for cars, winding through a jumble of medieval buildings, it enthralled me. I have visited the 'perched villages' in the hills of both western and eastern Provence many times and have thoroughly enjoyed them, but Saint Antonin is different. It has not been 'discovered' by wealthy expatriates and beautified to incredible levels. Much of Saint Antonin consists of somewhat crumbly buildings that have passed their prime, but retain a tremendous beauty and absolute charm.
I discovered Auberge Lion d'Or a few years ago and have had the pleasure of staying there on several occasions. Built in 1600, it has the beauty and charm of the surrounding village. Each of the 5 beautiful, large rooms has well selected furniture that well suits the old building, yet also contain modern bathrooms. The salon and breakfast room are marvelous and the rear garden a delight to sit in and relax after a day of walking and exploring the village and surrounding area. Whenever I visit the Dordogne or am proceeding from the Basque region on the Atlantic coast to Provence, it is my intention to stay at least one night in this wonderful B&B. The producers of the popular film Hundred Foot Journey, staring Helen Miron, must have felt the same way, as some scenes of the movie were filmed in this delightful building.

“Wonderful stay in idyllic surroundings”
Reviewed August 18, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We stayed for two nights and were overwhelmed by how cosy and welcoming this B and B was. The building itself is like no other and was a fantastic combination of historic exterior with modern comforts. The inn itself has very easy access to the main market square, (1-2 mins walk) yet is beautifully peaceful at night. There is plenty of free parking near the property. The hosts Jan and Bo were very welcoming and even gave us a lift to and from our evening party outside of town. The breakfast was great, with as much as you wanted and a really good selection of breads, cheeses, croissants etc.
Our room overlooked the back garden and was very large and spacious , with plenty of room for two additional beds for our children to sleep in. I can highly recommend this B and B, it was also used as the set for 100 foot journey film !!

“Amazing step back in time.”
Reviewed July 28, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

The entire town is a one-of-a-kind place in the world. It is currently being loving renovated house by house in an ad-hoc manner by a few dozen individuals who are intent on keeping its medieval character intact. The Lion D'Or is a prime example of how this labour of love is progressing. The owners have fashioned an amazing holiday experience for visitors that is a welcome break from the modern and characterless hotels of so many locations. We stayed on Saturday and Sunday so we got to take in the local markets with all of its art, flavours and excitements. A great week-end and one I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to experience a hidden France. One word of caution though: The room is best suited to intimate couples though as the facilities are just partitioned within the room. Parking outside of the pedestrian area is possible - see photo for nearest location if you have heavy bags.

“Real medieval Inn- Lyon d'or Inn”

This cite does not give you a name of the Inn or an address which makes it hard to find given that there are two main streets in the village. Jan and Bo the hosts were a lovely couple and breaky was great. Also the Inn has a beautiful garden. The best room is facing the garden at the rear of the property on the first floor. This is not to say that the front bedroom and the ground floor bedroom were not nice. We are into early architecture and this place was a real gem - one of the highlights of the trip. The film 100 step Journey was being filmed in the main square as we left and Bo and Jan's unrestored part of the Inn is to be in the film - very exciting!
